I opened up my Legend on the way home from work today, and I was suprised to find that I couldn't accelerate past 120. I had it pegged in forth then shifted to fifth and no more power! It was a relatively flat highway. What could be the problem? I hear other Legend owners pushing 135+. I was thinking that it could have been the fact that my windows were open, but that didn't seem right... any comments or suggestions?

Hmm, it could have actually been your windows.. I know when you drag race if your windows are down it adds to your time. I guess it acts like a parachute, sort of. But I know mine will go past 120 easily, mine is a LS sedan. Were you going uphill?

*raises hand to 135+* :D Try it again without the windows rolled down and return to this board safely. :) I doubt a governor has been put on your engine.

G2's don't have governors, I discovered that myself upon hitting 135+ :) in my older legend, I haven't done it to this one yet, i'll probably wait for the remus before i get the urge to do something that crazy again :)

Its definately not a governer kicking in that early. I agree with the rest of the guys. Your windows being down is a real "drag":) at high speeds.Next time you are @ 100. put on cruise control, let it settle then open your windows and watch the RPM guage rise to compensate for the drag.

More work is required to maintain speed with the windows down.

what requires more work, driving with the windows down on the highway, or driving with the windows up and the A/C on?

Defenitaly the windows...... Some BMWs will actually close all windows and the sunroof for you at a certain speed. Its all about wind drag. You are creating a pocket inside your car..... kinda like a parachute with the windows or sunroof open. Try again safely and report back.:)

DSM Killer, Your A/C versus Window question is very subjective.

Thai.95LCoupe, Not all street cars have governers. Some can't get up to a high enough speed where it would be considered dangerous anyway. this usually happens because the cr is not getting enough air in to go any faster.

Secondly, there are 2 types of real governers. One where the car has a rev limiter @ redline and a second when a certain preset speed is reached. Both of these types function by shutting off the amount of fuel coming through the line. The later is used for supercars. The rev limiter is what our car has. But I'm pretty sure that the Stage II chip gets rid of this.

Also, there is such a thing as a mechanical rev limiter but only in some american cars.

Actually any car that does not have an electronically controlled tranny and has a rev limiter must have an mechnical rev limiter. A mechnical rev limiter works very simply by attaching to the main drive shaft in the tranny. As that shaft spins faster centrifugal forces push tranny fluid out of the device which triggers a switch to activiate the rev limiter on the engine.

Can Legend's even go 160? Aren't they drag limited or something? I know my friend's Civic Si reads 150 on the speedo, but the fastest a Civic Si with stock gearing will go is 147. Then there's the aerodynamic issue... is the body even streamlined enough to go that fast? The G2's body just seems to boxy and not streamlined for me to imagine it going 160. Aerodynamics are a *****! Also, speedometers become inaccurate after 100 anyways, so how do we know we are really going 160 or 140 or whatever? I know on Toyota Supras you can check the ECU to see the fastest it has been (I'm pretty sure it was a Supra, might not have been). Maybe you can do that on Legends too.

Well, I know when I topped my car out the needle was a little beyond straight down. Which would have been 170-175. I calculated in a lot of error I am guessing I was doing between 150-155 :)

Does anyone know of anyway of getting accurate speed readings without a 5th wheel?

I would say figure in about +3% error rate as you go over 80mph with 225/40/18.

I had my speedo checked, and at 80mph, I am actually doing 82.4, so at 100, figure in 3-5 mph = 104-105mph. You cannot tell just how fast you are going at those places, they will only go to 80mph or so. But the error rate gently increased to 3%. I imagine if your car says you are at 140, it is possible (in my case) you are already at 145mph (going with the 3-5% rule..which I beleive would be high).

I have no problem with accelerating at or above 100 with the windows and roof open (this is the way I roll), but I notice higher gas useage. I accelerate with ease, up or down hill. Maybe time for some mods, there 95. CAI opens up your high end hp...try it. Then go for exhaust...then go to mey thread about Performance on the way

NickD, just saw yor email...I will look into that...and feel free to post up there, I/we need the feedback.

I've gone like 130 before on the freeway pretty easy in my coupe with the windows down :D. It's not hard at all to get going that fast. I didn't want to go much faster than that though due to the fact that I don't really want to go to prison at 17 .
