Hello, I am interested in purchasing an 88 Legend that apparently has sucked a valve. It is a sedan with 2.5L V6 and 5sp. and has 186K. It is very cheap price so I am looking to find out what it would potentially take to repair and would it be worth it. If I could find a low mile motor I would consider R&R too.
Never owned one of these so not sure of the value or parts availability.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Sedans moved to a 2.7 in 1988
87 and 86's had a 2.5
most parts are not too easy to find and a lot of the parts are expensive, i'm not sure about engine internals

Im not sure what it needs yet as far as individual parts. With 186K I was thinking rebuilt head? Still not sure the cars worth the effort.

Welcome to the forums dude! Like Black Panther said, a lot of stuff's not easy to come by and not cheap either...I would highly recommend the G1 Legend to someone that is into them, but if you are looking for something reliable it would be in your best interest to get one, or something else thats in better condition mechaniclly you know? You will need to get a replacement engine because it will be cheaper than repairing the one you have...these can be picked up on Ebay or at your local Japanese auto specialist...

Also are you sure that it is either a 2.5 or that it is an '88? Like was already mentioned, 2.5 is 86 and 87 and 88-90 had 2.7...hows the rest of the car look? any rust?

The specs are what the seller has told me. I was wondering that as well. All the parts sites I looked there were no 2.5L options or pull downs for the '88! I suspect one of the two are incorrect. I would hope he knows the year, so Im guessing the motor is 2.7. Whats the pro/cons of G1 VS. G2?

Before buying any used car (unless its just uber cheap and obviously has problems), run a carfax on the VIN. That will tell you the year and engine and will clear up any questions (unless for some reason he replaced the 2.7L w/ a 2.5L?). Also, you can just look on the top of the engine and it will either have 2500 or 2700.
