Just wanted to point out that this thread just reached 100 pages! This must mean that TT's will be out next week right Kyle!! lol..

why does everyone think you need headers to turbo your legend or any car...
you can run it off your exhaust, thistrue im working on my ka7's right now
all you need is fabrication and imagination! plus i know you all basicly get how a turbo works i would just go off the y pipe into tubo /back to exhaust...(not..so).....easy...tuning and cooling now thats another issue...

You make it sound so simple!

No, you do not need headers for turbocharging, that is correct. However, stock manifolds don't offer a very good solution to the issue at hand, and having new log manifolds cast? Too much time and effort for low production.

Sure, a turbocharger is powered by exhaust. But, there is a LOT of tuning of that which can affect performance DRAMATICALLY. You cannot just simply throw some exhaust gases through a turbo and BAM, the thing works like a dream! There is an intricate science involved with that, and unequal pressures on opposite sides of the motor in the exhaust stream will cause issues with not only the turbo and its efficiency but with the combustion process itself causing lean/rich conditions. This can lead to both poor performance as well as damage from lean mixtures causing too much heat.

Finally, this whole thing is not simply to put a turbo on a car to say one has accomplished it. Rather, max performance is the end goal. Therefore, headers will provide the max performance provided they are tuned correctly due to all the requirements listed above.

I hope this helps you to believe that it's not just "throw it on there and away you go."

ok, first you are wayyy off i never said how well it would perform, BUT there are turbos made to run this way precicely , i have seen a twin turbo vette ,tuned ,this way, u should look into all types of turbos not just what is the coolest or most performing ones, there are alot of turbo manufacturers out there i know
it can be done, plus a legend already has really high comp. so you wouldnt and shouldnt boost it too high ,SO, "mr. max performance" i think running a low boost turbo woulnt hurt the fuel/air mixture as bad as you might think, remember that your most likely using a mostly stock engine! if thats the case , using a lower boost with better ignition, fuel delivery and air quality should work out just fine , maybey even a slight timing change would balance this out. , if you think your gonna boost up your stock engine to like more thn 6-8lbs (and i think that might be too much) go ahead let me know so i can watch th show! i would rebuild the motor and actualy lower the comp a little, shorter connecting rods, many different reasons why i would build, good luck "moneybags" im gonna just get a noticeable gain for practicly just my time.

do you drive a fully built/tuned legend?

more air (generally) = more hp

un equal pressure???? i would go after they y-pipe, probly make a new one....duh....

i think that would stabilize the pressures for each side...........................................

i will agree with you though if you were (because i am not one sided about this)
going for performance peaks the yes have a designed header spend hell money developing it and let me know when its 4 sale im just giving everyone a little hope in the mean time because there almost NO OTHER WAY AT THE MOMENT!

OK. Yes, rear-mounted turbos work. Cost and a PITA are negative factors for a slight performance gain.

True, the 3.2 has fairly high compression already, and rightfully so, more than should be used when turbocharging, period. 6-8 psi is not out of the realm of acceptable though, and even while the 3.2 bottom end isn't comprised of the forged components like those of the 3.5, it is still extremely strong and quite capable of handling that kind of power. If one would do so and not attempt to scream the thing to 7000 rpm, it would survive quite well.

Do I drive a fully built/tuned Legend? No, because I drive it every day, gas prices are outrageous, and I have better things on which to spend my money at this point in my life.

So, while you may never have said how well it will perform, that truly is a HUGE consideration. People want the best of drivability and performance. But if you're talking most bang for the buck - both in money AND time - nitrous is an excellent option. Christian (DV8) has had some really good success in that arena and you can search this forum for an extensive amount of information on that.

Regarding the rest, I think I have a little clue. Please see your PMs as I'm not going to trash this thread anymore.

Everyone, my apologies. :(

Mike

im sorry too everyone i jumped tha gun, this man is very wise. there is always something to be learned , thank you mike , i hope you read the pm i sent. mad respect you are a cool dude!!!!!

Good stuff here! I can vouch personally that a turbo Legend gets much worse gas MPG. I got 13-15MPG per tank, and it was mostly me the driver. Why drive a car with a turbo if you arent going to use it. haha

There is a clip of it on youtube under turbo legend for the search. Untuned, raw, and at high altitude. I do have more footage undergoing editing...until then enjoy what is there.

Peace, Kyle

The last kit your made for your automatic car, it was all black piping it was routed really weird.

I'd put mine against any other legend owner out there. Except a cheap kit, mine will be readily available after NALM 10 with a 50% deposit upfront

haha So why would you even comment on my kit if you are making your own? Am I missing something here? Then you just dont like it cause it was really weird? lol

Well, you can put it against mine. ;) What does your kit costs..where are your pics, and results?

Let me know when you want that race!

I dont even own a legend anymore and I still keep track of this thread lol. I dont recall seeing any videos or dyno plots of your current set up though kyle. Iono if its a trade secret but what turbo are you using now? I forget how the legends feel now after not having one for so long but isnt most of the power on the top end with fairly little low end grunt? I recall feeling kinda slow off the line but catching speed up the rpms. In any case I think a td-04 from a subaru wrx would be a cheap (100-200 used) experimental turbo to try out. Full boost on a wrx comes in at around 2700 or so rpms but quickly tapers down by 5000. BTW what are you running in a quarter? I'll take you on on that race with my wrx lol.

haha I thought this one was pretty entertaining so I kept looking back at it also! I know this site is sworn off by lots of guys, but this was my baby. lol I have one video up on youtube...search turbo legend. I have gone through 3 turbos now...and I am currently runnign a cheap little T3. It works pretty dang well. I have a few issues with the newest kit but overall you can beat low dollar power! To be honest..my car feels that same way just more dramatic pull at the top end. My buddy with an STI says the same thing...though to me his car is somewhat painful to ride in. lol I would love to try that turbo on my car...I seem to do better with smaller turbos up here. Yea, it make the car much more fun to drive...I had a large T4 and it sucked driving that car up here...sooooo slooowww off the line! they shut the track down I ran at, but I was about door to door with my buddies 350z on 5psi...now I am runnign a lil more hoping to pull on him once he gets back from CA. On my last setup I pulled on a stock STI before I tuned another 25whp and 35 whp out of the car... Are you modded at all? I have a race vs a modded WRX here in a week or so. Want me to film that? This is on another closed track! ;)
