Hey

My Trunk doesn't open anymore.. Only the key and the remote work. and the sunglasses holder broke.. Do you know how much it would cost to fix it ?:woot:

For the trunk, there is a switch in the glovebox that deactivates the inside trunk release. Check it.

Things F*CKED UP ON MY Acura RL

- The 2000 RL Skids when theres sleet or when its snowing (not sure if its just me) even on D3.. Skids even crazier on D4 when I accel even a little.. Is it cause its front wheel drive? Do I need Snow Tires?
and with it help the performance? and will new Rims help with performance in the winter as well? Tips?

- The Glasses case broke off
- VSA goes off randomly when I start transmission
-The back passanger rear door won't open from the inside. (It's not the child lock)
- The Cigar light (12-volt systems) doesn't charge up and then push out by itself anymore
- The other 12-volt system socket in the middle compartment doesn't work anymore since my battery died and I got it replaced. (Fuse is messed up)
- The outside paint job has scratches that mildly show on the coating.
- The passenger door handle has broken chrome peeling. ( Gave me a cut when I opened the door)

Anyone got the same problems? Can you help? any ideas? Cost? What should be checked out?

Definitely go for snows. I live in NH and had them on my RL for 8 winters. TireRack.com is good. Bridgestone Blizzaks. I have a set of stock RL wheels for a 96 RL if you are interested ($200 + shipping).

The chrome peeling on door handles is common as well.

I have some parts from my old 96 RL that may fit. I can check if you are interested. ([email protected]).

I suggest getting the technical manual. It is a free download at pdftown.com. Search on "Acura RL". 40 MB download.

Glasses case is a poor design. Often breaks
I bought my RL with a busted sunglasses case, and am way too cheap to pay the dealer a hundred bucks (!!!) for a new one. I tried about a half dozen types of glues to get the little nub to stay on, then finally gave up and drove a bolt through there.

So it works now, more or less, but I couldn't get the springs back to where they needed to be. I see where they're sort of SUPPOSED to go, but it's pretty hard to get them to stay there. So I reinstalled it without them -- it all works, but i have to pull the case down manually. 8-(

There's not enough detail in the tech manual (that I have) to reconstruct this; has anyone done so? Any pics or "diy" instructions, by chance?

1999 RL3.5 - Bog Standard and in great nick!

Except for:
Wobbly window glass driver's side. Yep I could adjust it!
"Side Air Bag" dash light which indicates seatbelt stalks or side air bag is faulty.
Squeaky drivers seat. Sounds like metal hinged joint that could do with some lube.
I think that's it!

Can anyone help me with this? My coolant is low. I don't know much about cars and the instructions for how to add coolant and get rid of air seem too much for me.

1. can you only find Honda type 2 blue coolant at a Honda dealership?

I'm thinking of getting it done at a dealership

2. would you ever take your acura to a honda dealership? (IF you didn't know how to fix your own car)

I'm assuming it would be cheaper to get it done there rather than the Acura dealership.

This is the exception to the rule:
I have a 90 legend...and I have a shorter list than you....
I have found the dealers to be quite nice and helpful.

p.s. I sat in the new RL at the Baltimore auto show yesterday....Awesome...simply awesome.

How about just the top fifthteen on my car?

1.) Transmission
2.) Power steering pump
3.) 2 of 4 Electric windows
4.) Rear view mirror leaking? doesnt auto dim now, sucks at night..
5.) SRS Sensors (Pass. Weight/ Drivers Seat belt)
6.) CD Changer completely dead/ "A Select" on Radio is haywire
7.) Maintence light flashes for a minute when the car is started
8.) Rear Defroster button peeling
9.) Gold emblems/ rear trunk strip are half gray now
8.) Rust bubbles/ defective paint
9.) Headlights peeling (yea I know, Its some UV coating acura says)
10.) Sunroof tint purple
11.) Timing is due
12.) Keyless entry works when it wants to...
13.) Doors unlock randomly. Dont leave your cds in there....
14.) Auto theft thinks my key is a screwdriver 3 days out of the week.
15.) Running premium sucks right now...

Really makes me want to spend another 60k on a new one... lol. Its ten years old so it has to have problems but I think this will be my last Acura because of how they handle things.

dang, that bad ? and i was thinking of getting an RL for my next car (when ever i win the lottery. haha :rofl: or in 10 years, what ever comes 1st).
going to stick to my 1st two choices, a lexus or bmw.

1. Overhead Sunglass/eyeglass holder is broken, I might make plastic tabs for it so it at least stays up.

2. Rear view mirror is not cracked, but the fluid from the auto dimming feature is covering the bottom half of the mirror. I just need to replace it.

3. Telescoping steering wheel works, tilt does not. I already searched around and seen the threads about the plastic gear. Is there a DIY for fixing it?

4. The cup holder does not stay back. I'll have to tear apart the center console and find out how to fix that.

5. Driver window feels funny going up and down, I'm going to clean the track and lube it today.

6. The coolant temp sensor was at the cold mark after 10 minutes of driving. Not sure what's going on there. It was cold out last night, but not that cold.

2 more things to add to mine
7. left front turn signal light seems to have a bad connection, causing the flasher to flash quickly.

8. SRS light came on while driving today. I'm going to get the scanner from work and find out what the heck that is.

I love finding new problems and finding ways to fix them. I'm fixing the sunglass holder right now.

Wow, just happened yesterday as I went to flush my brakes and oil change.. Popped the hood and saw green fluid starting to appear from a horizontal crack on my radiator. My radiator took a shit on me.
Spent $260 for a brand new Koyo one the same day. Hope this one lasts!! And apaprently radiators are supposed to last ~Average of 5 years? Can anyone confirm that?

Wow, just happened yesterday as I went to flush my brakes and oil change.. Popped the hood and saw green fluid starting to appear from a horizontal crack on my radiator.
The RL radiators often have this problem. On mine the crack was on the driver's side, on the front of the radiator (facing the grill), extending from a point to the right of the top opening towards the battery.... Many other 1G RL'ers have had the same problem.... Good news is that the new one should last a long time...

hey hey 2 nights ago I heard a loud crack noise when I was in my backyard with my friends and i ran into the front yard and I heard a jeep with 8k lights speed off (I think I kno the person). The next afternoon I realized that my passenger rear back seat window is cracked but not fully broken in because the tint is holding it in place. ( This is the smaller WINDOW that doesn't go down ). I was wondering how much it would cost for repair and what to do to this asshole. I rather much get it repaired since it is raining and I dont want the window the shatter when i'm driving. If you have any idea of what I could or should do let me know please thanks. If you think that the window can be left the way it is let me know also because if it won't shatter I can live with it but it looks completely shattered and all thats holding it is the tints I got which seem decently stable.

the only thing wrong with my 93 4dr (206k miles) is when i plug my garmin into the lighter......it doesn't charge, that's the only thing wrong..lol, also i need new bushings on my rear control arm (upper)

and my dads 94 4dr has nothing wrong. (89k miles)
