Can I fit a set of 235/45/17s on my CL-S 17x7" rims??

I'm looking to replace my worn out eagle F1s and want to bump up from my current 225/45/17s to 235s so that my speedo will be dead on (right now its about 2 percent off because of the incorrect overall diameter of the wheels/tires compared to stock)

Does anyone here have 235/45/17s on a set of 17x7" rims??

Thanks,
Dave
P.S. for reference, this site is often used to do the calculations: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I have 235/45/17s on my 17" rims but my rims are 7,5" wide. It might be pushing the edge when putting 235's on 7" wide rim. STRO (Scandinavian Tire & Rim Organization) recommends 8" rim for 235/45/17 tire and the approved rims for that size tire would be 7,5"-9".

Sput,
I thought I'd read that somewhere. I don't want to do it if it causes complications, but I am tempted because I have a lead on a good set of tires for a really good price...

I think you can put 235/45's on 7" wide rim and the packet will work ok. Propably only negative side would be that your tires are wearing quicker in the centre than the tire with right width of rim. That's because the tire will propably bend more than the manufacturer has ment. But I haven't actually seen this combo so it's all just a quess.

bump!

Can anyone else offer some advice on this matter? If I buy these tires I have to do so in a few hours...

Thanks for the link!

I read through it and sent SD a pm asking if he had wear or safety issues.

I would be basically doing the exact same thing, except my rims are +55 offset, while his are only +48. I hope this will prevent me from experiencing the minor rubbing issues he mentioned.

i'm running 235/45/17 f3.... rubb when i hit pot holes, offset 40.
