ive heard yokohama paradas are good tires, but they don't last long (say about 6 months). i just bought some, and my friend told me that toyo proxes last longer. what's the deal?

I've got the toyos on mine ... I've had them for about 6 months. rotated once, and still about 75% tread left ... a bit less after a day at the track :cool:
I have owned both thires. I love the yok's. So far I have had em on with little wear and they stick to the road very nicely. I owned the toyo FZ4. Another great tire but not as much suited to perfomance driving .Now the toyo tire to go with is the T1s. Amazing tire. And for the yok I would suggest the AVS sport. Two top of the line tires.
I believe the treadwear on the tires are lower being that they are a softer tire, which makes them stick to the road better. The softer the tire, the faster they wear out.
Tread Wear on 18's
Yoko's ---> 180
Toyo's ---> 300
That's why I got the toyo's on mine I have had them for
about 2 full seasons now and there is still about 75% of the
tire left. I drive REALLY BAD (way too fast) and they stay on the
gound with very little wear. I do fine them a little harder than I
like, Oh forget it it probably has to do with the fact that I am using a 225/35/18 with the car SLAMED with GC's (not even 1 finger gap in rear and fronts are in the fender---> looks more like /---\:D

Weird ... on my 16's Toyos, the treadwear is 280!

my advice, go with Nitto NT450's, i've had mine for almost 3 years, and they're still goin strong. oh yeah, in case ur wondering, i drive my car a hell of a lot. 130,000miles :p
i had bad experience with 215/45R17 toyo proxes, got bubbles in 3 out of 4 tires, ended up going to 18 in rims and using Dunlop rubber, highly recommend Dunlop rubber. i drive streets in bklyn, ny with bad potholes and drive highways in florida with no potholes, and they handle like a champ on both.
I have the Yokohama Paradas in 18 inch 225/40 and I like them. I have chrome wheels and once I rubbed a curd and luckily for me the tires protected the rim:D . I later found out later that the tires have extra lip on them for protection. LUCKY ME!

As far as the tire only lasting 6 months. Not true in experience. Its has has to do with how you drove on them. This a guy in my neighborhood with the same paradas in an 18 inch has had them on his car for over a year or so now, and his car is slammed on bags, plus he parks it in a dirt/rock parking lot at his job.
i had yoko paradas once... i dunno about anyone else, buy mine were noisy as hell. i had 225-40/18 . it annoyed me very much. imo, the thing with parada is that they try to make it like a track tire, but it isnt. grip wise, they were pretty good, but just too damn noisy.

I really haven't experienced any noise, but I hear those Bridge Potenza are very good. Nice and quiet. I think Chris K and LegendGS has them.
yoko dB

anyone try out htose yoko dB's? they're supposed to be geared towards noise reduction...

If you get Toyos which is a great tire, don't go for the FZ4, but go straight for the T1-S. I had the older T1 plus that those tires were one of the best I had. Tread wear was a 220.

The worse tire I had was the Nitto NT450. Unfortunately, they last a very long time so it took me a long time to wear them out so I could get ride of them.

Are the Toyo FZ4's really a bad tire. I'm in need of two new rear tires, or possibly front tires wherever I want them to be. I currently have an almost brand new set of Michelin Pilot Sports up front, but my ones in back are worn badly. I went to Les Schwabb Tires and they had the FZ4's for like $140 a tire and the T1-S's for $210. Is it really worth it to spend $140 more for the T1-S's? Or should I just settle for the FZ4's and wait till all 4 tires go down at the same time and then spring for some super sweet tires?

Also, on another note. My current tires are 215/45/17, would it be ok for me to use 225/45/17 up front and still have 215/45/17 in the rear, or vise versa? I just want to have the wider tires, but if they won't fit then it's not worth it or if that setup will mess up handling. I have the two good 215/45/17's for now and I'm not going to just get rid of them.

Thanks for the help you guys.

FZ4's are okay. I personally think it is okay to use the wider tires up front for now. It would probably help cure a little under steer as well.
paradas= guardrail

i have a personal beef w/ paradas.....i had 18's on my integra b4 this....225-35's. theyre a good handling tire and all but not made for ne thing but summer. i feel like they were really the cause of my car spinning into a guardrail and ultimately being totalled. they SUCK in the rain......or they did for me.
Hey SpoonLegend, this is entirely off-topic, but great choice for a song on your signature! That's my jam:!:D

Oh, about the corners, lets just meet up sometime.

As for the Toyo's, I used the Proxes T1 plus. It has since been replaced by the T1S. If you are coming from NT555, than you better to to the T1S. You will not like the FZ4 compared to the NT555. Unless you think the performance of the NT555 is overkill. If so, than you might be okay with the FZ4.
I've used the Toyo Proxes T1-P's before and loved em like you cant believe. They friggin rule man! Dry and Wet they are IMO the best tire you can get, and the T1-S's are even better and last longer! If you have the Parada Spec 2's then you may have some decent results, but I never did like the previous Parada's.

Mind you all this info is purely from my own experience at my local track's here in Colorado like 2nd Creek near the airport in Denver and PMI down by Pueblo. As well as some decent street fun. Once on my Toyo T1-P's I was driving through a complete Frog Floater of a rain storm and while most people were going about 25 on the Interstate I was cruising along at 70 with no problems at all! Even when someone cut in front of me I was able to stop as if there was no rain at all! Pretty crazy I must admit, but I didnt want to be late for my date :D

I highly recommend doing some track days. They are a total blast! I think you'll have so much fun you'll be like me and never want to race on the street again. Even if you only go do practice days instead of racing days. Ged involved in local SCCA and things like that and I think you'll have a ton of fun.
