I was installing a transmission on a Type II engine today and I came across a problem I was hoping someone on here might be able to help me with. I am having a problem tightening the 36mm sealing bolt onto the differential extension shaft.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to keep the extension shaft from spinning so that I can apply the 56 lb-ft needed to torque this bolt. I read that Telion had a similar problem and he seemed to solve this by placing the trans in Park. I too tried this and every other gear but I have had no luck....the diff keeps spinning. I am not sure what might be causing this as I am sure the trans is solid and I am fairly confident I installed it correctly. If anyone has any insight on this problem, I would greatly appreciate any input.
thanks,
zo
