Lately, I notice that when I hit 80mph, the front end started to vibrate. If I release the gas pedal, the vibration will disappear. It feels like the car has a flat tire or the alignment is off. However, this vibration is NOT coming up all the time. Mostly, at night. At day time, it doesn't vibrate at all, even with that speed or faster. It only appears when I was on the freeway. On the street road, it rides smoothly.

My mechanic test said that it MAY be motor mounts, but not sure. I think is my drive sided axle, which is the original axle. My Legend is 1994 with 85k miles. Will that axle last that long? Also, how long the motor/tranny mounts will last? What do u think?

The axles should last that long if not longer..your vibration couls be a bad tire or out of balance one..start simple before you get to the motor mounts..does it also do it when u brake...
I had a car once that would do this because on the brake calipers would grab the disc and cause a front end to shake...good luck and get back to us...

It won't vibrate when braking.

if you got your tires at Discount Tires, i say go there ask them to re-balance and rotate your tires and see if the balance was off
its free, so what harm could it do?
How do u know I bought my tires from Discount Tires? :D :D For sure, I will give them a try, like what u said, it won't hurt... I will let u guys know... ;)

check out your tranny mount and your ball joints. I had the same problem and after finding out that my tranny mount was broken and ball joints were bad, had them fixed and now it runs smooth again...check those two things out..good luck

some possible causes: Out-of-round tire; tire with flat spot; tire with damage to casing; tire out of balance (Legends are sensitive to this); wheel not round; wheel laterally bent; loose ball joints; shocks that are worn out; bad tie rod ends...

All of the above are simple to diagnose, and cheaper than axles and mounts. I'd start with the tires and wheels if it was my money.

I have the same symptoms right now and took it to the shop today thinking it was the axel shaft(left). He said he saw nothing wrong. I have the vibrations only when accelerating and I also here a chirping squeeking type noise when I let up from accelerating but don't take my foot completely off the gas. I'm stumped and now thinking it could be a tranny mount. I'm getting frustrated

It sounds like it's the engine mounts, because my friend had the same problem. The engine mounts were broken in his Legend and after he replaced them he had no problems.

im sure one or more tires are off balance. this happened to my grandmas taurus. when i hit about 75mph in it the car started shaking. once that was fixed the problem went away.

now to go a step further

... i too have a similar vibration at 70mph, but when i hit the brakes (even slighty) the steering shimmys hard, and the car trembles, is this likely a brake issue?

Check your disk brakes they might be slightly warped. And the Vibration at 70mph might be one of these (balljoint, alignment, tire balancing, axle, tie rod ends)

most likely a tire balancing issue. u want to get that fixed asap before more problems happen

I had the same problem with my car. I had the rotors and pads replaced and now my braking is smooooooth. I still get vibrations but I know that I need new tires. I had the tires balanced and that helped a little but new tires will make it feel like new.

BTW, how much am I looking at to get the engine mounts replaced? Also tranny mounts?

I had the same problem. Sometimes the vibration was there, sometimes it wasn't. After a while, it started to happen at low speeds too. And it went from a mild vibration to feeling like my axles were about to fall off. Turns out my differential oil had worn out and caused the diffy to bind at times. It went away when I changed my fluid.

would warping also explain why suddenly my new front pads are squeling on every single stop now  . i had them for 2 months w/no issue, but they now scream all the time. and now that i think about it, the noises came about around the same time the vibrations did.

lol.. talk about a can of worms... i just had a wheel alignment done and low and behold i get this noise/vibration for about 5 mins on the motorway... sounds/feels like i've got a flat spot (or vaguely like a flat tyre) or am driving over those lines on the road to tell you to slow before an intersection, but as i say after about 5 mins it goes away... so im thinkin its either my tyres, steering linkages, or somthing else which i havent figured out yet(low auto fluid?)which gets warm and changes state so as to reduces the noise... mmmm... strange huh

There are several POSSIBLE reason why your car vibrates. First reason that any mechanic will assume is your mounts are worn off or broken, that's very logical. The second reason is probably the alignment of your car --> if your tire/s are prematurely worn off or your car tends to drift to other side, that's means you need your alignment done. CHeck your tires too because different size of tire or different kinds of thread will set your alignment off which sometimes cause the vibration.
