Make sure your battery terminals are clean and the ground cable are mounted to fresh metal. If all seems ok, you'l want to test the alternator by applying the positive power wire directly to the starter that is connected to a single wire that you can remove by hand (not the one that is held down by a bolt). If all you hear is the solenoid activating and not cranking the engine, you have a bad starter.
