Hey everyone. I figured that since many of you guys are internet and computer savvy you could help me with this..

I acquired the domain name about 5 years ago and a friend of mine built a cheesey one page site for me.. I finally want to build it up and offer some basic services on it... (Advertisements, agent locators , ect. ).. I know I could pay someone a good amount of cash to build it up nice for me but id rather do it myself if it's feasible.

So I guess my question is , is it feasible?, I am willing to put time into it.. I just need to know what is available for me (software, ect) and which ones are best..

Any help would be appreciated..

If all you need is a simple webpage, you will need the following:

MS Notepad
HTML reference (do a search on Yahoo for "html reference")

I know that's all I needed to create my webpage.

Thanks Vince, I already have a basic page up.. What I want to do now create like a "search function" that can locate data that I put into a database. Maybe some type of software can help me do that?

I don't know, you might want to search for a JavaScript or something like that. I wrote a search function, but that was back in the day, and I don't remember how I did it. I think I might have used PERL?

The easiest way to get around all the coding involved in building a web page would be the lazy way : use a WhatYouSeeIsWhatYouGet program. I use Adobe GoLive for my pages but I think Micrsoft has one called FrontPage (i think these progarams have built in ways to make search function)
Go to download.com you will find many programs there for building webpages.

knowing HTML coding is great, to be able to tweak your pages, but in all honesty, just as mentioned, you are best to use a program. I myself have used FrontPage, and DreamWeaver. I found DreamWeaver to be far superior.

Here are some pages, I've done with those programs, in conjuction with graphics programs:

http://futurex20010.tripod.com/home.htm (I have no idea what's going to happen with this page...)

and two of my earlier pages for online games...

WebMonkey covers a wide range of development topics and you don't need a phd to understand what the hell they are talking about either.

Also check out the following sites:
download.com
tucows.com

The sites listed above have tons of different programs you can use to build create and design your web site. You can also sample some tools so you can decide what you like before you buy it. Although I tend to just use the freeware stuff.
