how often does a battery go bad to warrant a cheap one?

$113 i think is a good price for a battery.

paid close to $200 for my optima

its been trouble free for 3 years now.

i had a Deka battery before that, that worked great for me too... i think you can find them at autobarn if you have them

if you decide to get a battery choose ones depending on its CCA ratings
the more the merrier for cold weather starting

also make sure that it has some kinda warranty and maintenance free might also be a plus

There are only like two companies that make all the various car batteries in the US, no matter where you buy it just make sure it is the one for the Legend and then decide which one based on cost and length of free replacement/warranty. Make sure you get at least 2 years with free replacement. You can get one for about $60 or you can pay more.

I have always bought wal-mart. WTF? If it goes bad you take it back you get a new one no questions asked........................ $45.00 great deal, plain and simple, just kep the receipt in the little pocket on the side of the battery!

thanks for all your input everyone. i appreciate it. i went ahead and bought the OEM Acura Battery today. It turns out that the battery costs $113 for the customer, but i got it for $61 because i work there. free installation too. its a 100 Month Warranty with free 3 year replacement.

Because of the rediculously high mark up they put on parts and high labor rates. I use a well established independent shop since '89 and save at least 30-35% on maintenence. Only way to go for an older car notorious for expensive parts....

okay okay i've been reading al lthis time and i've got a question. Whats a good CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) rating for a 92 LS with added bells and whistles (aftermarket radio, fogs, system, HIDs, 2 big subs, 1500 watt amp). My CCA rating is now like 500. When I went to test my battery today, it was good (Duralast), but the people in the store laughed at me. My brother had a Cadillac Seville or something and his battery had a CCA rating almost twice that, like a 920 or something. . . I know the Legend LS comes with lots and lots of electronic goodies and it's about the same length as a cadillac, but i'm not sure if I should stay with my battery size or not.

i believe the OEM CCA rating on the Legend was around 525 CCA. now given your added bells and whistles you can go higher up to like 700 CCA and should be fine, unless you live in a really cold climate. you shouldnt need to change your battery unless its going bad. reserve capacity is another feature of batteries. usually the batters with less CCAs have a lesser reserve capacity. reserve capacity basically is how long you could keep your lights and stereo on without draining the battery too much. if you like to play your stereo without the engine on, id recommend upgrading to a better battery. Optima batteries are the best because they have lots of CCAs and a longer reserve capacity not to mentioned they can be discharged and recharged more than your regular battery.

Are the optima batteries universal? or do you have to get a specific #?
