I usually put 89 octane in my legend. However, my friend told me that using a higher octane does not always improve performance, it could actually hurt performance. Apparently the higher octanes burn slower. Does anyone know if these engines are tuned to use 87 octane (owner manual says 87 or higher)? If they perform better with the 87 octane, I won't waste my $$ on 89 anymore.

Thanks.

I used to have an '87 Legend sedan and found that although it ran fine with 87 Octane, it was happier with 89. However, it didn't really like 91. For some reason, I went through more fuel quicker when I put 91 in; expensive twice over.

I agree 87 is fine, I used 93 for a month and found no noticeable difference

my gas mileage I think was better with 87
then again I am a moody driver, sometimes I feel like flooring and sometimes I feel like being an old lady
