Hey all.

I'm thinking of buying a G2 Legend some time soon. I own a 1990 Mazda 626 - good reliable car. It is insured with Progressive so today I decided to go to their website to see how much would it cost to replace it with a 93 - 95 Legend.
My current insurance bill is $601 for 6 months - pretty good.
Here is how much legend would cost:

1995 Acura Legend 4d GS $1,048.00
1995 Acura Legend 4d LS $1,021.00
1995 Acura Legend 2d LS $1,016.00
1994 Acura Legend 4d GS $1,020.00
1994 Acura Legend 4d LS $993.00
1994 Acura Legend 2d LS $1,028.00
1993 Acura Legend 4d LS $952.00
1993 Acura Legend 2d LS $982.00

Not TOO bad. I'm 23 with 2 tickets in WA state.
But what's weird is that some newer and more expensive cars have a lower insurance rating. Here are some sample rates I pulled out:

2002 Nissan Altima 4d SE $872.00
2002 Acura MDX 4d $985.00
2002 Mazda Protege5 4d $789.00
2002 Acura RL 4d $1,045.00
2002 Acura RSX 2d $925.00
2002 Mazda Millenia-S 4d $942.00
1995 Mazda RX-7 2d R $930.00

Why is that? What is driving the insurance cost up for legends?
Thanks,

Alik

jose3030,

I hate GEICO! Last time I was with them, they added $160 to my yearly insurance bill just because i moved 3 minutes away from my old place which is formally in a different city.
They suck!

Legends are theft targets and expensive to repair which drives the cost up. It falls into the luxury category. Insurance companies have points they give to a car, and the higher the point rating the more it will be to insure the car. When I got my insurance through a company here, my GS was something like 43 points, compared to my Haundai (good car) which was about 6 points.

I have GEICO

I have a 91L Legend and I pay $ 317 for 6 months.
I'm 31 with 1 speeding ticket (it should be coming off my record any day now).
I'm in the bay area.
Legends are expensive cars, with high theft rate. Plus u're under 25 with 2 tickets.
I guess it all adds up.

Thanks everybody for your replies. I am not complaining about insurance cost, but I am very surprised that
1995 Acura Legend GS insurance is $1,048.00
and
2002 Acura RL insurance is only $1,045.00

weird!

I'm paying $470/yr for minimum Tx liability coverage, plus premium coverage w/ $1000 deductible, plus the uninsured/underinsured coverage. This is w/ AMEX car insurance w/ no accidents or tickets. I use to have Gieco, but they kept jacking the price up every 6months for nothing and got sick of it. Estimated driving in a yr commuting b/t school is probably 6K miles. I live on the outskirts of Houston, 29yr old. But pretty cheap for me it seems.
