It started like 3 weeks ago, I was on the high driving about 80mph. Suddenly, the car jerked like it's stalling and the RPM needle bounced up and down a little, it did that for about 10sec. Then went back to normal.
So I thought I need to clean or change the air filter on my Weapon-R dragon intake, it's been about 8 month since I changed or cleaned my filter.

This week, I got my new filter element from Weapon-R. They sent me the new model element which has a metal grid like thing around the foam filter element. I swap that into my filter, and start the car, the car started, then the RPM went way down to about 100-300 RPMs and started stalling like crazy, even the lights started to dim. Then the car eventually shut off. I cranked it again, and the car started and ran fine. It did that every time I start the car.

Then today, I decided to put the older dirty filter back on and see what happens. I hand cleaned the old filter a bit and put it back in. The car starts fine, but when I drive it, it stalls again, but idles fine.

WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH MY CAR?
Anyone else have similar experience? Please help!

Thanks in advance!

whoa!
how many miles?
what and when was your last maintenance?
What kind of fuel do you use?
Does the check engine light come on? Go to the P/M section and check out the ECU codes to try to help you along if possible....

We just need some more info....I can name a number of different culprits, but I do not want to send you in a frenzy of buying parts...holla back

Just a thought - have you checked the battery leads? I saw weird things when my black one got corroded.

91,000 miles, just had my 90k service TB and Water pump done 2 month ago. I always use 93 octane.
The check engine light did not come on.

Thanks

Sounds weird.... I remember reading on the old forums, that a person was driving along, and the car started to chug and act like it was going to stall. He replaced the tranny mount and everything was fine.

But it sounds like you could have one problem or a couple of them..

Ignition problem?
Maybe a dirty throttle body, clogged injectors, bad plugs, incorrect gaping??

Try to see if there are any engine codes and get back here...:)

Do you know how to get the engine codes from the ECU? Thanks

omg that happened to me once before when i was rolling at about 80 mph!!!!! doesn't happen anymore, but it may just be one of your sensors. as for me, i still need to replace my oxygen sensor
One of my friends looked at it today, he's a mechanic, he said it looked like the O2 sensor too. Anyone else can confirm? Thanks

Were you using Cruise when this happened? If no codes, then I would suspect a "glitchy" VSS. When was the last time you cleaned the Throttle Body or replaced the fuel filter?

No, I was not using the cruise control.
I've never cleaned my throttle body or replaced the fuel filter since I owned the car. (2 years 30k miles)

How do you clean the throttle body and replace the fuel filter? Is it DIY? Thanks

If it is a bad O2 sensor, you will be getting a trouble code. The check engine light will come on, and when yo uturn your car off, the light wont come on until the circumstances are met again.

From my haynes manual.

Code 1- Left HO2S- Check the oxygen sensor, heater and the oxygen sensor circuit.
Code2- Right HO2S- Check the oxygen sensor, heater and the oxygen sensor circuit.
Code 41,42- Check the O2 sensor heater for proper voltage signal (left41, right42)
Code 43,44- Left, right fuel supply system. Check the fuel pressure, fuel pressure regulator. Check the oxygen sensors, check for vaccum leaks.

I had the 43,44 codes after my HG job, and it was the O2 sensors. REplaced those and everything was fine., I had no problems driving around with the light even on though, so I dont think it is the problem. When there is a problem with the O2 sensor or its circuit, the PCM operates in open loop mode... it controls fuel delivery in accordance to its programmed default value instead of feedback information from the O2 sensor.

The fuel filter is kinda a pain, and I think you need a special tool to do it. You can buy a can of throttle body cleaner from the auto parts store, and there are directions on there on how to... I have never done either of theese things.:)

UPDATE!

UPDATE!!!

I just tried to jump the ECU service terminal to get codes from the ECU. I ended up getting no codes at all. I connected the 2 pins on the plug with paper clip, then turned the key to the on position. The check engine light lit up, but that's all it did. It stayed lit, no flashes what so ever.

So what could be causing my car to choke and stall? HELP ME please:(

Also the symtomps are getting worse, it's stalling and choking everytime I drive now, even at low speeds.

HELP my baby is dying. :(

You can use a Throttle Body spray cleaner. The fuel filter should be replaced every 24 months/24k miles. You should use flare-nut wrenches. You need to pull the fuse for the fuel pump and run the engine until it dies to depressurize the system. Then loosen the top bleed screw, loosen/remove the fuel lines from the filter and remove the filter from its mount.

If you wish to perform any DIY repairs, you need to buy the HELM Service Manual (www.helminc.com).

I will try to clean the TB next week, also what else could be causing these problems? I'm really scared to drive my car now, because it seems like I'm doing significant damage to the engine or transmission when it stalls or chokes

Ok, I went autozone today and can't find any Throttle body cleaner. What does that stuff look like? also how does it actually work?
Is there any online places I can get it at?

Thanks
