There is a GB from Late Night Custom going on the 3000GT forums on a custom LED tail light conversion. It is custom so you can get them however you want, but the price will vary on your options. If you guys want in , let me know... and we will do a combined GB from both forums.

Seeing as we've had high intrest in LED tail lights, we've decided to go ahead and do a group buy. These are for tail assebmlies only, which include rear parking lights, brake lights and rear turnsignals.

MINIMUM OF 4 PEOPLE ARE NEEDED!

4-8 will get 10% off
9-16 will get 20% off
17+ will get 30% off

Here's a bit of incentive, they don't all have to be the
same template or from the same car for that matter, but must all be tail lights.

Smaller sets, of basic design, and non-integrated ciruitry taillights START around $200, as a benchmark. Average prices have been around $350-$400, which is incuding some extras, along with more LEDs per tail light, just so you have some figures to go by.

ALSO! Anyone who is taking advantage of the group buy will also get a 10% discount off any other LED lighting to their car, as long as the minimun requirement is met. i.e.... dome ligh, trunk light, turn signals, individual accent LEDs, reverse lights... etc.

I will try, does anyboy have a good closeup pic to post of our tail lights? I just want to remind everybody that this is NOT a Legend specific GB. This is a GENERAL GB for any tail light for any vehicle, so I am not sure how this guy is going to want to mock up a Legend specific light to generate interest for you guys. I am only extending this offer to the forums here because I know it is so hard to find decent mods for our cars.

Here's your answer about the PWM flicker

Well a PWM (Pulse Width Modulator/Modulation) is a little circuit composed of a few components of capacitors and resistors along with a 555 timer microchip.

the basic use of the PWM creates a series of very fast on/off switching, along with how long the ons or offs will be.

Seeing as LEDs are so sensitive to voltage, it is very difficult to dim them the conventional way so the only efficient way to "dim" them is to have them turn on and off very fast... in Hz. by doing this, you notice that the LEDs become dim.

For some of the car companies using PWMs, you'll be able to notice the tail lights flicker so to speak if you look at them very quickly... but only on the parking light stage.

as for strobing, you can use the same circuit, but switch out some of the resistors to different values, slowing down the on/off's.

Hope that helped
Ahhh. Well heres a bit of refrences.... most computer monitors are around 60hz, newer ones are about 75hz... if you move your eyes fast enough around ( OR your head fast enought ) you can see a flicker. And the further away you get the more intense it will seem. A flourescent light, in the US ( us uses 60hz a sec in the power lines ) will be about 120hz, and in Europe, the rate will be around 100 ( europe has 50hz lines )

The human eye can see around the 10-30hz range, depending on ambiant light and intensity of the source flickering light.

the PWN circuits that we use peak out around 270hz. With a variable resistor giving it a 4%-98% duty cycle... so depending on how much you turn up or down the resistor (potentiometer) will give you a higher or lower flicker or refresh rate...

basically .... 10.8 hz to about 264.6 hz being the max.

BMW likes to use PWM circuits... next time you see a 745 rolling by with its parking lights on, move your eyes back and fourth a bit and see if you can notice the trail or flicker... but not too long, gotta keep your eyes on the road!

hope that helps ya!

This GB is for ANY tail light from ANY car. Tail lights only though. He will do other LED work but it is not included with the GB as a standalone. In other words as long as you get your tails done he can give you a simultaneous discount on another project such as sidemarker LED's.

Update

Hi every one, below are a few pictures of the arrays/lay-outs that are possible. If you have an array you would like to see please tell us about it and we will make a sample.
A basic set of LED tail lights will have around 400 L.E.Ds. It will look and functions just like the stock set-up. We can make sets of tail lights that use around 50 L.E.Ds or we can make sets that use over 1000 L.E.D.'s. We also can use more circuitry so the turn signals sequence, or make your tail lights strobe...
To see more pictures check out are web page www.latenightcustom.com
If you have any questions shot us an Email sales@latenightcustom.com

There were just a few arrays. We can make just about any array so if you have any ideas please let us know. We can make a sample to show you what it many look like.

*^above was quoted from the 3000GT forums.*

As you can see, this guy must have had a "LiteBrite" as a kid :D Seriously though whatever you want he can make up a sample for you. You can get "Legend" or "Acura" to light up in your tails, circles or squares...whatever. I will ask him to do an acura symbol, but there's only so much shape you can make with a square pegboard. He can make these arrays sequence in whatever fashion you would like.
Here is a video of the sequencing with some green LEDs...

Hey guys/gals I have been racking my brain tiring to make a LED Acura timbale. It’s not possible to make one small enough to if in any tail light. It you would like a LED Acura emblem to hang on your wall then we can do it :D . We can make your tail light say Acura or RL, CL… we should have no problem fitting that in there. We and do lines or rows of L.E.Ds or odd shapes. If any one has any Ideas please let us know. We enjoy making Tail lights you want not tail lights your stuck buying because thats all that is offered.
Thanks Jordan @ LNC

Jordan,

I am electronically naive, so excuse my ignorance in the following question.

If we sent our tails to you to be customized, say 2 rows of LEDS in the upper half of the G2 coupe tails and 2 rows of LEDS in the lower half of the G2 coupe tails, would the finished product that you send back be plug and play?

Would we need any additional wiring or harness? Is there any risk of burning up stock taillamp harnesses?

Thanks in advance.

-Eric

PS. Also, could you remove the reflectors from our taillights?

Hi guys and gals, below are a few of your questions answered. If you have other questions feel free to post them and we will get to them ASAP. We also would like to thank everyone for the ideas and interest.
Q. Would the finished product that you send back be plug and play?
A. Yes we can make the finished product plug and play.

Q. Would we need any additional wiring or harness?
A. There may be. It would depend one what type of circuitry you would like.

Q. Is there any risk of burning up stock tail lamp harnesses?
A. No one of the biggest advantages to LED it that use vary little power, for instance one 1157 bulb as a stop light uses 1.75 amps. Most L.E.Ds uses .002 amps per LED so you do the math.

Q. Could you remove the reflectors from our taillights?
A. On some tails we can. We have not done made a set of tails from any Acura vehicles.

Q. Can we get a mock-up of what the tails would look like?
A. We would love to have some one send in a set of spare tail lights if possible. If know one want to donate a set of tails, than we will give the first person a nice discount on there set of LED tails.

Q. Would you are able to see the LED's through the lenses on our lights or would you have to make a transparent red one as stated before?
A. Are you asking weather you can use the clear tails or do the tails have to be a transparent red???

BTW. We have two people from the 3SI forums so two people from here or any other forum were group buy is posted will receive 10% off when you sign up.
If any one has any questions feel free to contact us.

Thanks Jordan @ LNC

I can send in a set of G2 sedan tails indefinately, for the discount. The lenses are already seperated.

What about reverse lights???? I wouldn't call it a full LED conversion if the reverse lights are incandecent.

How is this for an idea.

Lee, I believe the reverse light is on the top next to the turn.

Latenightcustom, One thing you might want to look at is that our turn signal flashers have a bulb out flash pattern. Will a 6 Ohm 50w resistor be wired into each turn signal or will we have to add them????

Here is an alternative to what is being discussed in this thread. This is intended for reference and not as "flaming."

The prices:

LED lights in bulk - $5
PCB software - Free
Getting PCB Made by company - $15
Soldering - 1 hour
Beer- $5

Alot easier than you might think, and alot cheaper.
