I just spent quite a bit of time on the website and I am fairly impressed. The beauty of this thing is that the source code and schematics are freely distributed. This means it could be easily modified to suit specific needs. It seems that it would be a good core system to build on. The price isn't bad either. On the chip burning issue, is someone thinking of modifying the code and reburning, or are they just interested in copying the Bayou chip? If they are modifying the original code, do they have the source code for our ECU. I would love to get that into my hands.

We talked a while ago about just copying the bayou chips and then distributing among the forums at a highly reduced cost. I still think that we should really try this... Does anybody have any ideas?

hmmmmm... do they have a warranty when you decide to let that thing manage your engine and it detonates or throws a rod/cracks a piston/blows the headgasket out...? I'm just not a fan of hack-n-sack electronics like that, but if someone wants to try it, buy it, loan it to me, and I'll put it on the Starion and we'll see what happens. It's the perfect test platform - FI motor, stock internals, new HG, and fuel system... that little "Squirter" will have its work cut out for it...

Copying someone elses firmware and distributing it is quite illegal. It would have to be done very quietly. You might be able to find a legal loophole if you did some research into the patents and copyrights. Your best bet is to copy it, change something minor, and market it under a new name. Bayou probably doesn't sell to many of these, but I doubt they would give it away.

The cost of the squirter is very low. I think this is a small time business running out of someones home. I imagine couple of technical car freaks got together and designed it. In addition to the cost of the device, you would have to factor in the cost of hardware and software mods to get it to work. I think it could be setup to work like the Apex SAFC.

I am not convinced that fuel control is a worthwhile mod (SAFC 1-3 hp). As long as the fuel system is capable of supplying enough fuel (injectors, pump, filter), and the controller can maintain the correct A/F ratio modification should not be necessary. I would be more interested in a programable ECU like the AEM thing.
