Shifting with Automatic Transmission from G2 Owner's Manual

(D4) - For normal Driving Conditions

(D3) - This position is similar to D4, except only the first 3 gears are selected. Use D3 when towing a trailer in hilly terrain, or to provide engine braking when going down a steep high. D3 can also keep the transimission from cycling between 3rd and 4th gears in stop and go driving.

(2) - This position locks the transmission in second gear. It does not downshift to first gear when you come to a stop. Second gives you more power when climbing, and increased engine braking when going down steep hill. Use 2nd gear when starting out on a slippery surface or deep snow. It will reduce wheel spin.

(1) - This position locks the transmission in 1st gear.

Other notes:
- For faster acceleration in both D3 and D4, you can get the transimission to downshift by pushing the accelerator to the floor. The transimission will shift down one or two gears depending on your speed.

- When you move the shift lever to a lower gear, the transmission downshifts only if the engine's redline will not be exceeded in the lower gear.

- By upshifting and downshifting through 1, 2, D3, D4, you can operate this transmission much like a manual transmission without a clutch pedal.

Brakes (stock)
Type I - Dual-diagonal, power-assisted, 4 wheel disc brakes.
Front - 11.0" diameter
Rear - 11.0" diameter
ABS System - 4 wheel speed sensors and electronic/hydraulic control unit
Type II - Same as above, rotors 5mm thicker for better braking, dual piston front calipers.

Trim Levels
*In order from lowest to top of the line*
Sedan Trim Levels
Base | L | SE | LS | GS

Base Model:

In 1991-1993 the Base model Acura Legend Sedan, as base level was only available on the sedan, was a bare minimum Acura Legend. In a sense, the Base model was the stripped down racer :giggle: (joke)

Standard Features:
Driver Side power seating, Cloth seat coverings, Speed Sensitive Power Steering, 3.2litre Single Over Head Cam 200 hp (210 lbs/ft) V6, 5 speed Manual Transmission, 4 speaker audio system with AM/FM Cassette player with automated Power antenna, Unpainted body protecting trim panels. Blue tinted windows

Options Features:

• Automatic Transmission
• Leather Seating
• Moon roof
• 6 disk CD changer
• "LEGEND" floor mats
• Trunk net
• Body colored door handles and mirrors
• Fog Lights
• Passenger Side Supplemental Restraint System (airbag)
• Separated Rear headrests

L Model:

In 1991-1993 the L model was the second step up in the Legend line up of luxury. In 1994 the Base model was dropped and the L became the new Base Model. In 1991-1993 the option list was smaller than in 1994.

Standard Features:
Driver Side power seating, Cloth seat coverings, Speed Sensitive Power Steering, 3.2litre Single Over Head Cam 200 hp (210 lbsft) V6, 5 speed Manual Transmission, 4 speaker audio system with AM/FM Cassette player with automated Power antenna, Unpainted body protecting trim panels, Floor mats, Moon roof, Body colored mirrors and door handles, bronze tinted windows

• Trunk Net
• Body colored trim molding
• Deck lid Spoiler
• Fog Lights
• Power Passenger side 4 way seating
• Heated mirrors
• Heated seats
• Passenger side Supplemental Restraint System (air bag)
• Acura Cell Phone

In 1993 the airbag became standard across the board.

Also in 1993 the list shortened. Body colored trim panels and were removed as those were standard. But an option for premium sound was offered in the L model in 1994. This was not like the Bose Ext. Amp setup in the LS though. Also in 1994 the Speaker system went from 4 to 6 drivers.

SE model:

In the final years of production the Legend started showing its age in the segment. Competition started catching up to the Ahead-of-its-time Legend. In 1995 in a last-ditch attempt to rid of the rest of the KA7 chassis, Acura devised a final year "Special Edition", hence the name SE. Not Sport, or Sacred, but Special Edition. This model was to the most out of the sell out of the chassis that Acura could before they brought out the RL. As a result it was only produced for the Final production year 1995.

The SE in itself is not much more than an L Model, but there were some things added that made it more than an L but not as much as an LS. And not many options available.

Standard Features:
Driver Side power seating, Leather seat coverings, Speed Sensitive Power Steering, 3.2litre Single Over Head Cam 200 hp (210 lbsft) V6, 4 speed Automatic Transmission, 6 speaker audio system with AM/FM Cassette player with automated Power antenna, Painted body protecting trim panels, Special Edition Floor mats, Moon roof, Body colored mirrors and door handles, bronze tinted windows. Faux Wood Trim, Two Tone Paint job

Optional Features:
• Acura Cell Phone
• Trunk Net
• Differing Color options for the SE used colors from the Legend's Palette already.
• Top Color First:
o Pearl White/Desert Mist
o Geneva Green/Canterbury Green
o Granada Black/Seattle Silver

LS Model:

The LS model was the top of the line 1991-1993. The LS model came loaded down and had a short option list. It is probably the most luxurious of all Legend levels. In 1994 some changes were made.

Standard Features:
Driver Side power seating, LEATHER seat coverings, Speed Sensitive Power Steering, 3.2litre Single Over Head Cam 200 hp (210 lbsft) V6, 5 speed Manual Transmission, 4 speaker audio system with AM/FM Cassette player with automated Power antenna, body colored body protecting trim panels, Floor mats, Moon roof, Body colored mirrors and door handles. Bronze tinted windows, Light and Temperature Sensitive Automatic Climate Control, Heated seats, heated mirrors, Height adjustable seatbelts, Passenger Side Supplemental Restraint System (Airbag)

Optional Features:

• Trunk Net
• Acura Cell Phone
• 6 Disc CD changer

In 1994 the LS lost the 5 speed manual transmission availability

GS Model:

In 1994, the LS was displaced, by name, as the Top of the line model. The GS for all intents and purposes was an LS model with a different drive train, braking system, and suspension. It was truly the Driver's Car, of the Legend family and Today still is one of the most sought after models on the planet and was the Swan Song of the Acura Legend. Also it was the first Acura Sedan and one of the first road cars to ever house a 6 speed manual transmission.

Standard Features:
Driver Side power seating, LEATHER seat coverings, Speed Sensitive Power Steering, 3.2litre Single Over Head Cam 230 hp (206 lbsft) V6, 6 speed Manual Transmission, 6 speaker audio system with AM/FM Cassette player with automated Power antenna, body colored body protecting trim panels, Floor mats, Moon roof, Body colored mirrors and door handles. Bronze tinted windows, Light and Temperature Sensitive Automatic Climate Control, Heated seats, heated mirrors, Height adjustable seatbelts

Optional Features:

• Trunk Net
• Acura Cell Phone
• 6 Disc CD changer

• Cobalt Blue Metallic
• Golden Glow Pearl
• Twilight Blue Pearl
• Seattle Silver metallic
1992
• Seattle Silver
• Cobalt Blue
1993
• Canterbury Green Metallic
• Cashmere Silver Metallic
1994
• Garnet Red Pearl Metallic (only available on L)
• Desert Mist Metallic
1995

Coupe Trim Levels
L | LS

When the 2nd Generation Acura Legend was introduced the sedan came out immediately the coupe followed suit in mid-model year. When it was introduced however it was only introduced with 2 trim levels, L and LS. From the beginning the coupe was only supposed to be similar to the sedan in presence, hence the almost zero compatibility in exterior and interior panels. The coupe was a totally different car than the sedan; the only thing shared was the engine and chassis, to generalize it.

L Model Coupe:

In 1991 and 1992, the lowest level of the Coupe was L. Similar to the sedan, the L offered a good bit of options on this level. But it was pretty much loaded to the hilt from the start.

Standard Features:
Driver Side power seating, fabric seat coverings, Speed Sensitive Power Steering, 3.2litre Single Over Head Cam 200 hp (210 lbsft) V6, 5 speed Manual Transmission, 4 speaker audio system with AM/FM Cassette player with automated Power antenna, Unpainted body protecting trim panels, Floor mats, Moon roof, Body colored mirrors and door handles, bronze tinted windows, Automated Seatbelt movers, Automated door closers, Retractable Rear Side windows

Optional Features:

• Automatic Transmission
• 6 Disc CD changer
• Deck Lid spoiler
• Faux Wood trim
• Fog Lights
• Leather Seats
• Heated Seats
• Heated Mirrors
• Mud flaps

LS Model Coupe:

In 1991 and 1992 the LS model Coupe was the top line Acura Legend Coupe offered. Just like the Sedan LS, the Coupe LS offered all the luxurious trappings that you would expect from a high line sports-luxury car. Even more luxury than the L coupe offered.

Standard Features:
Driver Side power seating, Leather seat coverings, Speed Sensitive Power Steering, 3.2litre Single Over Head Cam 200 hp (210 lbsft) V6, 5 speed Manual Transmission, 4 speaker audio system with AM/FM Cassette player with automated Power antenna, Painted body protecting trim panels, Floor mats, Moon roof, Body colored mirrors and door handles, bronze tinted windows, Automated Seatbelt movers, Automated door closers, Retractable Rear Side windows, Real Burl Walnut wood trimming, Light and Temperature sensitive Automatic Climate control

Optional Features:
• Automatic Transmission
• 6 Disc CD changer
• Deck Lid spoiler
• Fog Lights
• Mud flaps

1993 was the "Try it out" year for the Legend. In the sedan they tried new colors, revised audio, updated gauge clusters, and a few other things. In the coupe, they tried out the Type II engine and 6 speed Manual Transmission. In 1993, the Type II was introduced in the LS and L Coupe. Making it the first Acura to have a 6speed manual transmission

Also, in 1994 the lower rocker panels were painted on the LS to distinguish it from the L model Coupe.

Optional Colors through the years

1991:
• Cobalt Blue Metallic
• Seattle Silver metallic
• Persian Red
1992
• Seattle Silver

1993

Wheels
All Factory wheels are 6.5" wide, +65 offset
91-92 Sedan (L, LS) - 15", 20 spokes

93-95 Sedan (L, LS) - 15", 16 spokes

93-94 coupe (LS), 94-95 Sedan (GS) - 16", 5 spokes

Premium upgrade wheels - 15", 5 spokes, availible in gold and silver finish (gold shown)

Offset
The offset of a wheel is the distance from its hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. The offset can be one of three types.
Zero Offset
The hub mounting surface is even with the centerline of the wheel.
Positive
The hub mounting surface is toward the front or wheel side of the wheel. Positive offset wheels are generally found on front wheel drive cars and newer rear drive cars.
Negative
The hub mounting surface is toward the back or brake side of the wheels centerline. "Deep dish" wheels are typically a negative offset.

If the offset of the wheel is not correct for the car, the handling can be adversely affected. When the width of the wheel changes, the offset also changes numerically. If the offset were to stay the same while you added width, the additional width would be split evenly between the inside and outside.

Bolt Pattern

The bolt pattern for the Legend is 5 x 114.3

Acura TL, CL Wheel Info
TL/CL rims will NOT directly fit onto the Legend without boring the centers first.
They must be bored to 70.2mm in order to fit properly.

Weights:

...were goin' w/ 3516lbs 4 '94 LS coupe (Curb(Kerb)="Unladen") ...Might as well add vehicle capacity weight 2 (C B Low)
...850 lbs 4 '94 L coupe (dunno yet in terms of sedans or other years).

According to the manual sedans are:
AT w/SRS= 3,472 lb's.

MT w/SRS= 3,428 lb's.
The curb weight varies from most of the different trims, years, transmissions, and body style.
The range appears to be 3402 - 3616.
I did collect some weight info from some different places if it needs to be added.

Also, I don't see the Sirius White Pearl as a paint choice or the Blue over grey two-tone for the SE. Or were those not considered the 'optional' colors? If not, it would be nice to have a list of all colors available.

Yeah, all suggestions aren't even able to be added into the post yet (its so old that it won't allow me to edit it anymore...)

All additions that come in are going to be added into the new Wiki page thats gonna be started soon, just waiting for it to be uploaded, then I can start adding content.

I did suggest the KA5 turbo (post 8), but I thought the JDM '90 was a G2. Do you have the year of manufacturer listed on your door sill?
No sorry, all I know is the official registration puts it as a 1990 and it was imported to NZ in 97. It is definitely a G1 it shares all the same parts, I have been using the G1 repair manual for ages and the turbo model was only available from 88-90 so i doubt they would make 1 year of G2 turbocharged.

In the original post where it shows all the wheels. It's missing the 1991 L model Coupe wheel, which was a silver painted version of the more common clearcoated 7-spoke 15" wheel.

For the clearcoated wheel, the caption should be:

92-95 coupe (L), 91-92 coupe (LS), 95 sedan (SE) - 15", 7 spokes
