I think it's different. Same acrylic part that shows the gear numbers but different handle shape. Not sure if it'll screw right on to the G2's. But I could be wrong.

Don't know about interchangeability, but yeah, all of the G1 5-speeds came with the jeweled shift knob with little plastic chrome trim underneath and a leather boot.

They are different like mentioned, but they are very similar. I actually prefer the silver-inlaid knobs of the G1's over the 5-speed white-inlaid G2 knob.
