DIY: A/C Compressor Rebuild Procedure w/pics

Another useful bit for leaky a/c compressors...

I am going to do this when weather permits and will post results.

IMO, you'd be better off just getting a complete rebuilt compressor. Just don't forget to fill it with the specified type and amount of referigerant oil.

I agree with Paulo.....I bought a rebuilt compresor on Ebay and with the dealer installing it the total cost was under $ 300.

Niiiice

Good post. Why buy a crappy rebuild instead of opting for an inexpensive reseal of the oem unit ? Parts changers, bah.

tirade complete

Anyhow, in my experiance with other brands of car this works out pretty well, change any & all o rings, green or red orings are probably made of higher quality 'viton' instead of neoprene. Bearing & seal supplier should be able to help with thiose. Take pains to keep the dirt out.

What's the experiance of those who have swapped to R134a, does it work as well, does the pag oil kill the compressor ?

cheers, Jay

i have switched to the R134a because when i bought the car it had nothing left. i filled it in the beginning of the summer and used that oil and it worked all summer great, i cant compare to how it worked before tho. we shall see how it is come next summer
