so i'm still borrowing and driving my friend's 99' Accord (4 cylinder) cuz my '96 RL still needs brake work... here's the thing: I notice the gas pedal on the Accord is relatively immediately responsive (I've also noticed this on another friend's '07 CRV, also 4 cylinder) but the gas pedal on my RL isn't nearly as responsive (yet still much more powerful and faster) and it feels like I have to squeeze it an inch or two before it actually does start responding. Now I've never driven an luxury car other than this RL and maybe literally jumping between the Accord and RL made it feel worse than it is, but is the lack of initial responsiveness due to her older age or is this just how luxury cars respond?
Your comparing a 3,700 lb "Land Yacht" to a compact car. Put a trailer with 900 lbs of rocks behind the 99 Accord and see "responsive" the Accord's gas pedal is.
I enjoy a longer throw on the throttle, it helps you drive smother, and it allows for more overall control of the car. I hate driving friends cars when you barley tap the gas and go flying forward.
If you want to do some maintenance, change your air filter, engine oil, trans fluid, spark plugs and timing belt and you will definitely notice some more pep.
I would say my 01RL is more sensitive than the 04rl. Seems there's lots more room between pedal and ground than the 04 has.
I wouldn't say inside the engine. You have to take a crap load of parts off to get to it though, and its a pain in the freaking ass to do. Took 6 hrs for me to do with my mechanic at my house, and we got everything put on, but car wasn't running properly. Took it to my friends auto repair shop and had them do it. I'd say don't do it yourself. It cost me 600 for everything.
IF you want a more responsive throttle pedal, just tighten the throttle cable at the throttle body. Not so tight that it opens the throttle blades, but tight enough to take out the extra slack.
the long throw on an RL is pretty much the same as the long throw on a Legend...gives you better metered throttle response and allows you to drive smoother...
that said, the RL doesn't have a huge amount of power or short gears so, by definition, it's going to have blunted acceleration response.
okay, so it sounds like it's by design, which I don't mind. I guess I'm just out of touch with my RL since I've been driving this Accord so much lately.
thanx everyone
