Caliper paint concept ... test

So, in anticipation of the arrival of new wheels (17x7.5 Work), I decided to begin the caliper paint thing this weekend. After kicking around colors for my Vineyard Grey sedan and having trouble deciding on black or red, I came up with a two-tone scheme and tried it out on the rear calipers this weekend. Will do a similar scheme on fronts next.

Details:
- 5 coats black/4 coats red on calipers
- 4 coats black on rotor hat (Brembo blanks)
- VHT 900 degreeF caliper paint ($8/can @ Autozone)
- masked and papered while mounted
- CRC brake cleaner, wire brush on drill, #1 steel wool for prep
- Hawk HPS pads with black backing, so no weirdness (like EBC Greens)

The result:

That's a damn good job, never seen a two-tone caliper paint job before. Also looks like you put quite a bit of time into it! are you using a spray can or a brush? prolly a spray can since you taped everything off.. Nice man!

Thanks all.

MagicMikey - yes it was a spray can. A lot of time, but not necessarily a lot of work (unless you count masking). How much work can it be? ... spray, beer for 30 minutes, spray, 'nother beer, spray, yet another beer, spray, etc. So you can see the limit on the number of coats is related to my aim!

Gride_Cruiser - Yes, I *have* been waiting a long time . Turns out that Work distributor in Cali messed up on an order, but have it right now. Also it seems that Work churns out more "burning black" finish wheels than "burning silver" (what I ordered). They should be here in a couple of weeks, I'm told ... yet again. Pix will be up when done.

Forked 5-spoke very much like PIAA or OZ Superleggera. Graeme has 'em on his recent addition to his stable, the NSX. Have a look...

Sweet job on the 2-tone calipers! Show us the fronts when they're ready.
