So I got robbed yesterday.. Apparently I left it unlocked in the garage parking downtown... They took the gps clip, the cable, and the gps.

They must have took hint from the clip I left up on the windshield. (I DID though hide the gps in the glovebox). I must have went to lock it and pressed the button twice accidently.

So I need to do something about this.. The problem is the remote. Its the factory OEM keyless entry so it has ONE button for both unlock/lock. This is the problem because unless Im close enough to visually check the locks, I wouldnt know if I unlocked it or locked it.

Is there a different remote I could order from an acura dealer? Or has anyone wired something to beep/alert when the car is armed or disarmed?

+1 on the aftermarket alarm. Thief's these days know how to brake in a car easily if you have the OEM alarm.

thieves these days can break into anything, alarm or not, but it does at least slow some down to where you can maybe get a few hot ones off.

that zenesis in the aftermarket section seems to be the business, check it out. plus for those that forget it has auto lock.

aftermarket alarms are normally their own brain with alarm function. Most have the option to have shock sensors, motion/proximity sensors, and angle sensors. My coupe goes off if its knocked pretty good (the same force required for a window to bust.) Angle sensors are good for if you worry about your car being towed away and scrapped.

When you think about how far electronics, particularly wireless electronics, have come in the 20+ years since the first OEM keyless of the Legend's type was developed, the idea of using the older keyless system ought to sort of scare you. The technologies in question are simply dated at this point.

Even a simple aftermarket DEI alarm that does exactly what the OEM system does for convenience (the Valet 712t is all I have) uses far safer transmission technologies than what you have in the OEM system: at least it's sophisticated enough to do spread spectrum, code hopping, etc. These systems go for about $100 installed by your local professional these days.

I have 4 buttons on my remote (lock, unlock, aux, and alarm) so it's easy to avoid the mistake you made.

I don't believe car alarms do a f'ing thing when they're going off in a parking lot but one with a good two way pager may not be a bad idea: at least you'll know what's going on.

Sorry to hear about the GPS Jeff! Better someone open a door a take a plug-in electronic than smash a window and jack a built-in CD player or the like at least!

any systems out there have the ability to shock the fk outta someone and just give em a heart attack? ;] ...proximity sensor notices someone within range... turns on shock, waits for them to do something to shock them. wouldn't want to shock some random guy tryna look at how many miles you got. lol

sorry to hear about this man, I've been a victim of this a few times, but they break my window every time, Cali has this noise ordinance thing so the DB level cant be too loud. back in NYC, i had Hella airhorn installed by Proline on my then Sedan. when that thing went off, it went off. when my alarm goes off i have to run outside to check on the ride.

i also have the Keyless entry on my coupe but its followed up with a paging alarm, using my oem horn(high tone)+ Hella supertone high tone, which is louder than the multi tone that everyone has.
