Vice Presidential Debate 10/2/2008

Here it is, the second in the series of debate (feedback threads). It's Sarah Palin(R, Alaska) vs. Joe Biden (D, Delaware). Personally I expect a circus, but let's see what happens =)

Washington University in St. Louis. I'm watching on CNN.com-Live. Enjoy, folks!

FF Drifter 10-02-08 10:05 PM

I didn't know they decide the first speaker by coin toss. Feels like a football game.

Annnnd here Joe Biden. God, he's wordier than I am. I doubt he can say everything he wants in the two minutes allotted. I can't quite place Palin's accent. It's like... I dunno. Wisconsin or Montana or something.

ACK N UP 10-02-08 10:12 PM

yeah i'm watching it now.

SuperLegend91 V2.0 10-02-08 10:19 PM

me too, i have a feeling palin will get:owned: but we will have to wait and see

FF Drifter 10-02-08 10:22 PM

She's doing okay so far. Biden is not pulling any punches though: "the ultimate bridge to nowhere!" (on McCain's health plan). I like how both Biden and Palin talk more directly to the American people than Obama/McCain did.

ACK N UP 10-02-08 10:25 PM

Yeah she is doing ok. Its still early though. Its like a football game, it doesn't get good til the end.

FF Drifter 10-02-08 10:32 PM

If you are watching online (CNN.com), watch the Live Feedback version of the debate. There are pretty charts all over the screen that constantly meters the audience. You can watch the reaction of male vs. female, "rich" vs. "poor," and Democrat/Republican/Independent.

I'm having a really tough time figuring out Palin's answers. She is not answering the questions at all and keeps coming back to a list of (admittedly strong) talking points. The candidates were just asked about weaknesses and she started talking about being a mom and a business executive.

reboticon 10-02-08 11:22 PM

Man.. I feel like Biden prepped for a knife fight and Palin prepped for a high school debate club...

Apparently the Dems have their own pitbull who doesn't wear lipstick..I have a feeling were it not for Bidens extensive collection of on camera gaffes it would be a Biden/Obama ticket.

Palin has an amazing talent to talk for two minutes without offering a single bit of substance. Im very impressed with Biden.

I still want to sit her down and explain to her that a group of mavericks is a paradox. Then punish her being naughty..:hitit:

ROFL @ Palins freudean slip. John McCain is the man we need to LEAVE!, erm lead.

lmao:rofl: +1!!!

BIDEN FTMFW

She also failed on the general in Afghanistan...its not McClellan...

DandDEE 10-02-08 11:48 PM

i like how the media now is saying she did a good job when it was apparent that she was gettin beat up and was all confused and what not... i think this debate was hilarious on the real

KEYZER SOZE 10-02-08 11:49 PM

It is very obvious that Biden is exceptionally more knowledge than Palin. Honestly, he appears to more well-suited for the Presidential job than OBAMA or McCain. Biden is more like Vodka and Palin is more like a strawberry flavored wine cooler. Biden is direct and to the point (vodka) and Palin is too watered down and too light. Although, Palin was able to heighten her reputation a bit.

Wait Wait.. Are you saying Youd rather put Biden in your mouth?!:giggle:

This was the first brilliant play I've seen by Democrats in a long time. Rather than focus any attention on Palin, Biden went straight for McCains throat. He ripped it out IMO. Palin comes out looking OK, but McCains ticket is screwed.

I felt the same way. She never seemed answer what was posed to her. Biden was more polished, addressed the questions asked and had great rebuttals.

btw a CNN commentator made a great point after the debate was over. She said she was picturing Palin in a room with the generals after a 9/11 like situation and did not see her being able to make a decision or handle a situation of that magnitude. Whereas She felt( and I agree) that Biden would be more than equipped handle a situation like that.

this/\ I did not like that at all, it was like one sentence of what her weakness was and then off in some other direction for the duration. I also didn't like when bidden was "choking up" talking about losing his wife and child. it seemed a little played out to me. I do agree with you on the accent sounds more Minnesota to me, definitely Midwestern though.

whats77inaname 10-03-08 12:29 AM

Palin killed her on the bridge to nowhere pun. I also like how she didn't answer a couple a question, and his rebuttal was, "You didn't answer the question!" *lol*

the only good thing about sarah palin is now george bush actually looks intelligent!

simply impossible.

Dethred 10-03-08 02:50 AM

I was expecting her to simply not know the answers for anything, but she came off a little better than usual.

But...

She didn't have an interviewer to actually force her to answer the question, she could take any question any way that she wanted. She came off as less of an idiot, but still an idiot.

And Biden pulled a bunch of punches. All he had to do to seal her fate was say "Its not McClellan, its McKiernan. If you can't even get the name of the commander right, then why are you even talking about what he said?" etc.

FF Drifter 10-03-08 02:54 AM

I think that was a deliberate choice; Biden left that kind of nitpicking up to the pundits and analysts who would break the debate down afterwards. He just focused on answers. I dunno; I felt Biden was trying to demonstrate he had discipline. He looked pretty presidential himself.

I guess, I saw it in his eyes though, the second she said "McClellan" I could see the internal struggle to make her look like a complete idiot. She repeatedly got the name wrong, not because of a gaffe, but because she couldn't remember her foreign policy lessons during debate prep.

Im going to apply the Palin strategy to everything in my life from now on. When people ask me How are you doing? I will answer with My House Is Blue. The next bill that is due, I will simply write a note that says I like lamp and drop it in the envelope..This woman is brilliant..

Really what we saw was Biden stump for 45 minutes against McCain, and Palin tell us about Alaska. I thought Biden was brilliantly restrained and just absolutely tore it up. I don't think dems could have hoped for a better performance.

Palin..well she didnt fall down and she proved she can read. All in all id say thats a better performance than the GOP could have hoped for also.

I bet Obama is up 10 points on McCain in the next gallup poll.

Dethred 10-03-08 07:03 AM

You might be surprised how many people bought into the "simple person talk". I think over the past two weeks everyone has seen her as a complete dumbass, and thus, for many people she at least more plausible. I'll be pleasantly surprised if the polls shift towards Obama further, but I am not expecting much of any change.

I am actually(suprised by how many people buy that shit). I watched Fox and Friends this morning, because I get a kick out of people who have a total disconnect with reality. Ive always been fascinated with cult leaders. Jones, Manson, Koresh, etc. Ive never understood how they could just convince thousands of people to believe they are prophets of god. I think I understand now. You just get a couple people totally disconnected from truth and have them spew your venom nonstop until weak willed people believe it. Im totally moving to texas or new mexico and starting my own. Way better to have 100s people doing your work for you..

Well with McCain pulling out of Michigan Obama has pretty much 264 of 270 votes. Actually I was right about an Obama swing folling the debate. Not so much in the national polls but in all the battleground states.

About your videos.. We say the same things as these guys at least a day before they do, how do we get their jobs?:giggle:

Consider "why would we want their jobs?"

A good indication of where this race is going, and why I don't listen to fox news (ignore the turkish talk radio douche)

He probably won't until the end of Obama's first term.

IMO, Biden backed his arguments up 10x better than Palin and didn't skip up on anything I saw.

Fun Fact: SNLs ratings are up 64% from last year. On the plus side I suppose, if McCain/Palin get elected we will have 4 years of comedic genius. Right before the world ends.
