Cruise through Zion National Park *56k warned*

I met up with some friends for a hike today in Zion N.P., so I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to get some cool pics there (plus I realize that I need to post to keep up with Roger and 91LSMAN in the gallery ). Zions is about 45 minutes from my house. I arrived before 7:00 a.m. b/c they charge $20 to get into the park after the workers get there (great trick I've learned) and headed up the canyon. There were some really fun twisties and switchbacks, and the highlight was going through this tunnel built in the 1930's. It's 1.1 miles long and has some cool "windows" to the outside along the way. I love tunnels. Further down the road, there's another tunnel but it isn't as long.

Here are some pics from the drive...

A cool arch in the cliff in the background...

Look at the size of this rock!...

Here's the tunnel... So much for the rule "No stopping in tunnel!" Luckily, it was like 7:30 a.m. and I had the road to myself.

Then I met my friends who had been camping there, and we hiked Angel's Landing. It's only about 5 miles round-trip but it's pretty strenuous! It's tight switchbacks until almost near the top, then there are some freaky places where you have to hike between two shear cliffs... as, in thousands of feet down on both sides, and the "trail" -- which is really just sandstone rocks -- is only 2-3 feet wide.

Here's me and Joey showing the cliff we were on top of at the end of the hike...

I HATE heights and it scared the crap out of me. Luckily they have put chains along most of that part so you have something to hold onto. The view from the top was spectacular!! It was well worth the ~4 hours it took to get to the top and back down again.

Here we are up at the top enjoying the scenery... I'm in the white t-shirt in front.

Me and Melanie hanging off the edge -- sort of...

Cool white mountain cliff...

And a sign about the tunnel...

Stay tuned for next weeks edition of "4cruizn's exciting adventure!" lol.

those are some of the best pics I've seen yet. The scenery can't be touched. Of course the coupe is nasty too.

i wish i had a park like that. I would be nice to get out there and just enjoy the moment by my self. How far is that away from your house?

I'm jealous. I love Zion !! I was there was a long time ago, and I know I will be back some day. It was probably the most beautiful park I have ever been to. Great pictures.

THANKS everyone for the comments! I would seriously love to take car pictures for a living. Before I bought my digital camera, I was going through a roll of film every couple of weeks. I love finding new backdrops to try out. To answer a couple of your questions... Skate, the pic of Melanie and me is a little deceiving. The rock wall is slanted about 45 degrees -- not straight down. Still kinda scary to hang on there, though! AcuraLegend1990, the car's color is Desert Mist. Yours looks to be the same. Nice choice! GSteg, Zion is <50 miles from my house. It takes about 45 minutes to get there. And Jason -- yeah, we should still get some Utah Legends together for another summer cruise. When are you getting your car back? I assume it's in for repairs even as we speak...

Absolutely love that first shot! Hope you don't mind, but I saved a copy of it to use as the wallpaper on my desktop. I made a few changes to it with photochop (blew it up to 1024x768 and used some focus filters) and put it up here if you want it.

edit: fixed link... I hope
