Fresh Rubber on Mint Rims :: G2

As some of you know, I picked up a set of 7 spoke rims in St. Louis on my way to NALM. They have 65000 original miles on them and they're in great condition. Its a shame that the coupe of the guy I bought these off of didn't make it to NALM because his coupe was in just as good shape. His coupe is in such good shape actually, that he tossed these 7 spoke rims, rims that I would describe as a smidge short of mint, because they were too beat up for the rest of the car.

In any event, I've been on the prowl for a set of 7 spokers for December ever since I saw Blingting's car at NALM '08. December's GS rims are certainly in good shape but they fall considerably short of mint, especially in direct sunlight. I had Yokohama H4s mounted yesterday and I christened my hydraulic jack by installing these rims.

Oh, right... I put them on the coupe because I wanted to put these new and expensive tires through their paces. December can't do this because she needs a timing belt and therefore does not see revs above 4 grand. Rims can be changed easily as I planned to do anyhow, it just turns out that the coupe gets the first shift.

I have to say, I've always found the coupe's slightly smaller nature to fit the 7 spokers better while the sedan can make use of the extra metal in the GS rims because of its larger, longer, more stately look.

I love these tires. (December's GS rims have the same yoko V4s)

A couple of Mark's NALM pictures inspired me to experiment with angling shots...

Heres a little bonus. Passed this little milestone a couple days ago. Unfortunately my cluster has been replaced at some point in the past so this is approximately 200k miles. The coupe is officially broken in.

I think OEM is the best look. I just don't happen to think any of the various arrangements of OEM got it exactly right all at once

Very Nice. I actually like the seven spokers better than the GS wheels on the 91-93 Coupe's. The GS wheels look better on the 94-95 Coupe's. I still prefer after market rims to OEM rims on the Legend. It gives the Legend a personal and individual touch.

Why difference in preference for different years?

Looking good. If you need another mint set for your sedan, let me know. They have about 50k miles on them.

I see where hes coming from. The later model legends have painted rockers and front lip. It makes the car seem a bit larger and better accommodate the extra metal in a GS wheel. The GS sedan fits it better still having a longer and more stately look.

o rly?

I'd love to but I've still got a set of TL wheels I need to get rid of and I'll be saving forever to get a good set of tires on my track rims. My cars will just have to share these 7 spokers.

I'm curious as to your reasoning behind this...if its for looks, I understand...but for performance and overall driveability, OEM > aftermarket...

I've found on the Legend, and Legend only, aftermarket wheels don't ride right at all....they just don't sit right on our cars

That reminds me, the ride quality on the yokos is considerably better. I guess I shouldn't be surprised as kumho ecstas are the cheapest tires you can buy but my CD player doesn't skip anymore!
