Rust Repair (Run 56k, Run Screaming)

While so many other Legends were playing nicely together in MO my car was going under then knife to take care of my rust and a couple of other things. Mad props to Kyle at Kirk Kustoms, he busted his ass to make all this happen in less than a week and it came out fantastic (as I'm sure the few of you who saw my car at NALM will attest). The finished pics are way at the end for those of you who are impatient .

Just to list everything that needed to be taken care of (since I don't quite have pictures of all of it, and this is already going to be really picture heavy), there was severe rust on both rear quarters and just under the grill on the hood, surface rust on both front fenders, the drivers side A-pillar, and the trunk lid. There were dents on the drivers side fender, a crack in the front bumper, the rear bumper had a small dent, and there was a clear bra on that I'd had no success in removing.

Here's the car as I bought it:

Some more pictures of rust:

An old clear bra on the hood:

Dented fender from a cable tray falling on my car when I was parked at work:

Now for the interesting part ...
Some rear quarter panel cutting and welding:

I got a '94-'95 bumper that needed some repair:

Hood, fender, and trunk work:

Antenna shave:

Primer:

Paint:

... and back together, less than a week (but more than 100 hours of work) after I dropped it off:

I've got a lot more progress pictures too. More pictures of the finished product will come once I've had a chance to wash off the bugs and dirt from the 1800 mile trip back

This is some amazing work, the color match on this paint is flawless. I am planning on visiting kyle at kirk's kustom myself around spring 2010. I want that caliber of work done on both my legends! I just love the job they did to this car!

Car looks great sap! I must say, I was EXTREMELY lucky to have found this shop. Not only is this guy amazing with metal and fiberglass, he is very creative and does custom work. Plus, he's more than happy to let me dive in and help and keeps beer in the fridge

Thanks for the kind words everyone, I'm extremely pleased with how it came out. I just realized that none of the shots really show my new bumper very well, so here's another.

I'm owe you big for finding that shop. I can't say enough good about Kyle, both in terms of the work he does and just being an all around great guy to deal with. Being able to hang out in his shop, check out some of the other projects going on, look through his photo album of past projects, and help put my car back together was awesome.

I'd actually prefer not to say how much I paid because he quoted me for substantially less than he should have. If I brought a similar car in to him again I'd probably end up paying at least twice what I did. I'd hate to give anyone the impression that they can get this quality work done for as little as I ended up paying .

Do you mind saying what it ended up costing you? I think I was the first person to get to ride in your car after it was freshly painted!!

Having seen it in person, I gotta say that guy did an AMAZING job. I didnt mention it at the time b/c i didn't want to detract anything from it, and its a positive anyway, but the ONLY spot that *I* could tell had been worked on was the front bumper right underneath the grille, the paint had a little bit of a fisheye for 2-3 inches but you had to really really be looking. It wasn't due to the shop either, it was left over from the previous owners bondo job. Overall, I was absolutely AMAZED at not only the job, but how quickly it was accomplished. That guy has some amazing body work skills.
