2005 RL Rear CV Axle Removal HELP!

I am replacing rear passenger side CV Axle. The factory service manual states 3 steps once the wheel is remove. Of course its not going that easy.
1. remove nut from axle. Done!
2. push axle back through hub.
3. pull out axle!!!!!!!!!!!
I just cant seem to collapse the axle small enough to come out the back of the hub. I've removed several front CV axles in the past and always had to disconnect hub/rotor assembly from upper control arm to allow enough room for axle to come out. I Removed rear shock and disconnected upper control arm still not enough room to swing that axle out. Any tips would be appreciated. Im trying to avoid remove lower control arm and trailing arm. thanks
