93 Acura cooling system trouble

Hi, I have a 93 Acura. It over heated on me a couple weeks ago and I had to have it towed home.

Today I went out to see if I could figure out why it over heated. I poured water into the radiator and started the engine to look for leaks.

It ran for a couple of minutes and I could feel the engine begin to warm up. Then the rpms began going up and then the engine began reving, like someone was hitting the gas and letting off quickly. I immediately turned the engine off, but I noticed that the temp gauge did not move at all; it was still stone cold.

Anyway, I think it may be the thermostat, but I don't know where it is located and I am having difficulty finding information on the net.

Can someone shed some light on my situation, please? I'd really appreciate it.

Sincerely, Thea67

Hi, I have a 95 Coupe that had a similar problem. Issue was a blown head gasket, that leaked exhaust gas in the cooling circulation system. All was ok until the extremely hot water blew a hose and all hell broke loose. The temp gauge didnt pick this up until the last seconds. Could be this but who knows. Good luck.

it’s located inside a housing inside the upper radiator hose where that hose meets the top of the engine

I have a 93 Acura Legend. Had crazy, flip-flopping fuel gauge and overheating. I was told to keep radiator filled with Honda coolant. Most importantly, I replaced the coolant temperature sensor (plugs in at bottom right of radiator).

Cooling system trouble

Sounds like you have air in the cooling system. That will cause the engine idle to surge up and down. There is an air bleeder valve on the top of the engine where the upper radiator hose returns coolant to the radiator. Once you get all the air out the idle should return to normal. Unfortunately the air is probably getting into the system via a blown HEAD gasket .
Good luck
