The $1500 Question

Now, most likely $1500 will be poured into my Legend, whether that is rims and tires, new suspension components (shocks, springs, etc) or a quad exhaust system. This includes parts and labor and is rounded up. I only believe in using OEM or very high quality parts, thats why its $1500. I'm not made of money so that is why I can't do all three. If I had that money I'd just sell the Legend and buy a newer car. What do you guys think is best?

Well, the 2 front shocks, 2 front springs, 2 rear shocks, and 2 rear springs all cost $866 new, OEM from the dealer. I WILL NOT BUY FROM ANYWHERE ELSE FOR THESE PARTS. Now, the 4 shocks, 4 springs, and ALL the bushings, dust sleeves, stops, bolts, etc. cost a whopping $1700 total. Labor is going is going to run me some. What's the best way to go with the suspension?

I personally didn't buy my Legend because it was a cheap car. I bought it because I loved my first and didn't have full opportunity with it. I bought this one to be my "all". And I spend on it like its my "all". I bought my car for $4k in March and its July and I'm into it for $8k (including purchase price)...I don't regret it one bit

Ari_One, question for ya:

I bought a GS legend with KYB shocks and H&R springs. It rides nice but I've heard bad things about the KYB's and the H&R springs make the car sit to low for me. I'd like to give the car the same OEM ride as it has when it came off the showroom floor (or close to). My brother has an SE with 140k miles and just took of his stock springs. If I buy OEM shocks and use his springs will the car give me the ride I'm looking for?

Sorry to jack your thread...

I agree with ari, dont fix what aint broke. Everyone here talks of how much cash they spent on their ride. 4k-8k...but they still have a stock motor?! And as far as ONLY buying from a dealer, dont take it personal but that is retarded. Why pay a dealers premium price PLUS mark up. When you can order it through a specialized shop and pay less....hmmmm? And still end up with the same parts. Im not hating, look here......I dropped under 5k on my J-spec type II motor, tranny, ecu, intake, pipes, tires, fluids, belts, fluids, radiator, water pump, timing belt...I can keep going. Ya gotta shop around, take off the blinders and save some cash and get more for your money. I got my OEM struts for 300 shipped to my door, all auto parts stores price match too ya know.:wtf:

Thanks for the advice. Keep in mind I dropped a Type 2 Motor in my car last August, $2600 total with labor, parts, fluids, and a lot of other things. I also bought my car and went crazy to make sure my dad allowed me to get it when I was a junior in high school. This was September of 2004. $5400. VERY worth it.

Why on earth would you want to spend that much on stock shocks, when you could get better aftermarket ones for cheaper?

If you dont love your legend, i would spend the money on something like wheels and tires. That way if you sold it you could just put the stock wheels back on it.

for 1500, I'd definitely go with something similar to this (mind you, feel free to change the brand)

-Eibach Pro Kit
-Eibach alignment kit (front)
-New shock mounts (only if needed)
-New strut Mounts (only if needed)
-new boots (only if needed)
-Konie or KYB adjustable shocks
-Rear camber kit

I'm getting all of these components installed within the next few days, mostly because of my Eibach Lowering kit and I decided to replace just about everything else while it was all torn apart. This saves a lot of labor cost down the road.

For 1500 installed, you can't make a better investment on a noticeable ride and handling difference. This goes a lot further than say, spending 1500 on rims and tires (which I did too)

Hope that helps
