Dad's finally getting serious about this project for his 6MT so I've started talking to my shops.
One thing that my mechanic was a bit worried about was that if the listings from our local parts supplier are correct, the 5MT flywheel has a 2mm smaller outer diameter (as I understand, no big deal because we'd be using the 5MT flywheel, pressure plate, etc.) and a 1/32" larger inner diameter (this is what bugged my mechanic.) I understand that 1/32" is tiny and that (if the listings are accurate) it is larger than the 6MT flywheel so it won't have trouble fitting around the transmission's input shaft, but I want to know if this is an error in the listing system or if there's a difference in clearance or what... I have trouble believing the input shafts are different and these listings are shoddy at best most of the time but I was wondering if Dv8 or someone else had some comments on it?
Obviously it hasn't been a problem for you guys and the long term durability has been ok (though, Dad's car is now on a 14 year old clutch so 4 years at longest is nothin...) I'm just trying to get more information so my answer to my old man and long time mechanic isn't "people on the internet say it works."
