Nice job Alex. It is great to see someone actually "just doing it". Good thing you were not originally a member here (I am guessing....) as you would have been deluged with all kinds of "educated" theory about this and that:rolleyes: I just wanna congrat you on jgoing forth and doing it despite all the major hurdles. If anyone one of the rest of us goes forth with OPERATING F/I, we will owe you alot...if not just for the vision you have.

I'm sorry to be all nosy on this issue because I'm just rather curious on this type of undermounted turbo fabrication, and I just have a couple questions.

How much boost are you running?

Is your Tranny holding up well or you had it rebuilt or reinforced by Level Ten or someone??

Any dyno's to see how much was gained from the turbo?

Down time of the vehicle for the process of the custom fabrication?

Any photos of the turbo exhaust manifold?

DV8, are you going to continue with the Headers project or is it going to be scractched if the HYBRID C32/35 engine is successful and probably at that point, Turbo instead of N/A?

Turbo Q&A

I'm currently running high boost at 7psi in order to avoid any problems with internals. Low boost is set at 4psi. Tranny had about 118,000k on it when I did the turbo kit. I am located in New Jersey, minutes away from Level 10 Performance Transmissions in Hackensack. I had them install the PTS kit and torque converter so the transmission is on point and holding the boost just fine. The car has not yet been dyno'd. I have dyno time scheduled for the 14th of this month at a shop called Kaztech Motorsports also in Hackensack New Jersey. When I get them I would be more then happy to post them for everybody. Downtime for the whole fabrication is hard to say. Roughly about 5 months plus time to swap for a lower mileage engine. There is no turbo manifold as the turbo sits on a custom mount where the headers meet under the car. It actually works well because you elimnate having to make a turbo manifold completely. I will try to get some better pictures up so you can see exactly what I'm talking about a little later on. Right now I'm in the process of builidng a new exhaust. Unfortunately Burns Stainless only decided to ship out half of my order so I'm still waiting on the other half. I'm using 3 inch stainless piping which will be welded to an universal HKS titanium muffler. I am also waiting on a shipment from Top Fuel in Japan of their new product, the Power Neo which you can read about in this months issue of Super Street. I was hoping to have that installed before my dyno pulls on the 14th as to give anybody who is interested some idea of what kind of power it really makes. The cost with shipping to the US for this part was 142.00 US. I'll keep you all posted.

Wow ... 4.8 0-60 is some serious acceleration ... that would put it in line with an M5, and a faster 1/4mile. An M5 has 395HP, and weighs only 300lbs more. I will love seeing the dyno graph for this monster! Do you have a time slip for that 12.59s run? I'd make it my wallpaper, just to show that a Legend can do this ;)

Thanks for the info, its great know of a guy that so dedicated to his car.

Also, the Level Ten PTS kit, was that include with price and installation, because I'm looking into one of the transmission kits and the high stall torque converter for my legend. Would the Torque converter actually help my car, being 95,xxx miles and the axles being that I do not know how strong they are and how well would they stand up to the pressure. Any input on this issue?

Level 10 Trans

The prices posted on the website do not include installation. In fact, Level 10 won't install anything on site except for the full transmission the offer. I begged and pleaded with them to do my kit since I was so close to the shop and they finally agreed. Installation was roughly $900 for the kit. The torque converter I did myself. The converter is well worth the price. I really feel a difference and the shifts are much quicker. There use to be alot of downtime between shifts with the stock tranny, I'm sure you all know. But this kit really beefs it up nicely. As far as your axles, I have 118,000k on mine and they are holding up well. However, I am looking into some new ones. I'm speaking with the people over at Prodrive to see what they can do for me. The website there is www.prodriveusa.com. If you need any more info let me know.

That's odd. When I got my Level 10 kit installed they offered to install it for me, $3600 total including kit though for the tranny rebuild.

I find the shifts to be much harsher but crisp. I did however manage to tear all my tranny mounts apart. Are you having any issues like that?

Tell me more about this 1/4mile time(12.59), what was the 60ft an your MPH ect. were you on slicks or street tires? was this your 150 shot and turbo?

Thanks

Level 10

Yes, the only do the transmission rebuild in house. As far as harsh, I can't quite say I would describe it that way. Remember this is an RL transmission. I'm not as familiar with the Legend tranny but mine is very quick and crisp. I had my transmission mounts custom made by Xtrememotorwerks in Patterson NJ before I had my Level 10 kit installed. I figured I would have problems so I took care of it before I did.

I am guessing the RL and Legend trannies are very similiar. I didn't have Level 10 install the kit in mine but had it done elsewhere (possibly a big mistake). I am also near level 10, ~1 hour away, i have to head over there to have them look at it.

Concerning your tranny mounts. There are three mounts, two side mounts and a rear mount. Did you replace all three? If so, how much did it cost from XtremeMotorWerks? I have been looking into making my own polyurethane mounts. I think I can make them myself for about $40/each + my time.

Yeah I would suggest you bring your car down to Level 10 and see what they have to say about it. I had all 3 tranny mounts replaced. The mounts were free of charge so I can't tell you how much it would cost to you. I'm a good friend of the owner of Xtreme and I bring alot of buisness so I get alot of work done for free. I can ask him if your serious though. I would imagine it would cost somewhere between 60-80 a peice plus install. You can get back to me whenever.

Scotch and Dv8 i think the numbers may have been estimates before he started the project. now that the car is running he may havea chance to run it and get real times.

Hmm.... I would actually be doing all the work myself. I can ship them my old mounts to be rebuilt with polyurethane. I am definitely interseted. However, after some recent events i would have to hold off a couple months to get this done but if you can talk to them and get pricing. I know a few other people on these forums are interested in this as well. We had a thread going concerning this a little while back.

Tranny Mounts

Well let me know exactly how many people would be interested and I'll see if I can get a price together for you.

im down for it/.

about that 1/4 mile time-tel me more

Best time to date is 12.59 @ 102mph. This is my most recent run. This was after the level 10 kit and the NX N-tercooler was installed. That N-tercooler is an incredible product. I was also using different tires for this run. Instead of my street driven NT555's I was using the NT555R's. I'm not sure if it made a difference or not because the N-tercooler and the Level 10 kit made such a big difference a small difference in tires is alot harder to notice. I'll also note that the stereo components in the trunk including the playstation, subwoofers, box and amplifier were all removed before this run. The spare tire and jack was also removed. I borrowed a carbon fiber NX bottle from a friend as I only own a regular 15 lb bottle. The rear seats as well as the passenger seat was also removed. And now that I think about, during the turbo install we removed alot of unecessary weight. All of my heat sheilding for the exhaust is removed, some protective underpanel type skirts, fenderwells and so forth. Basically anything we found under the car that didn't necessarily need to be there.
