ok there have beens lots and lots of requests for this DIY so im finally gonna post one. I know others have done it different then this and im not even sure this is the easiest way to do it but its working out for me.
1.) you need a piece of copper piping, im not positive on the size but look at my pictures below to help judge. This piece of copper will need to sanded down on the outside to allow it to slide into the MDX shifter, do not attempt to hollow out the MDX shifter, it is wayyy easier to sand down the little piece of copper piping.
2.) you basically just need a little section of the copper pipe and you will be cutting a groove in it just a tad wider then the alen screw used to attach the shifter. This groove makes it so the shifter wont be able to twist from side to side.
3.) your gonna need to put the shifter in without the copper just to line it up, set it on top and make sure the acura logo is center then take a felt tip marker and stick it through the alen screw hole to make a mark on the stock metal shaft.
4.) your gonna need a dremal tool to not only cut the groove in the copper but you need to cut a groove in the actual metal rod the the stock shifter attaches to. This is by far the hardest part because the metal is very hard, i ruined many bits in the process. The goove dosent have to be very accurate its purpose is to allow the alen screw to screw in deeper then the 1mm the copper tubing groove allows. The groove has to be long enough both ways to allow the shifter to fully engage when pushed down and high enough to active the shift lock when you arnt pressing on it.
5.) after you have your grooves cut, you will need to test the spacing and such but you will end up glueing the piece of copper to the stock metal shaft.
PS i know there are 3 screws on the shifter but its very hard to line up three perfect grooves on the copper, not to mention cut three grooves in the stick shifter shaft, so i only have one screw holding the shifter on and its working out just fine.
---note you will need to put some greese on the copper
