Well lately it seems I have a new sound I have to worry about, one that I never thought I would have to worry about on the legend. It sounds like I have some sort of exhaust leak but I have no exhaust smell at all. It is also coming from right around the front of the car probably near where the pre cats connect or something. I have a link below to a video of the sound but it does not sound close of as bad in person as it does in the video. I don;t have the opportunity to go under my car right now and look so I was hoping for some opinions before I do. All suggestions are welcome!!! Thanks

Sounds familiar! Might be the flange where the Y-pipe connects to the cat. No choice but to get under your car and see where it's broken. If you need another Y-pipe, let me know, I have one that's in good shape.

You really need to get under there and look to see where and what is broken. If the flange looks good and bolted on tight, then it could just be the gasket (which I have brand new OEM if you need ;). If the flange is broken or a bolt missing, you would either need new part(s) or a new flange can be welded on depending on the current condition. Sounds pretty loud so I assume something is broken.

Well I just changed my oil and had a chance to get under there and its really hard to tell. It is definitely on the Y pipe ( drivers side) at what seems to be the upper most connection if that makes sense after the precat toward the engine side, so maybe the gasket between the precat and the manifold?. Its a tough area to get into but I don't see a hole or broken bolt some it must just be the seal. Do you have this seal? This looks like a pita to repair its in a tough spot and I know those bolts are gonna be rusted.

How do you know the leak is there? is that where it sounds the loudest from UNDERNEATH the car? if so, it is going to be a pita. At least both connections to the headers need to be disconnected and both gaskets would need to be replaced.

ah yes welcome to my world, i have this same exhaust sound on my drivers side that i cant seem to find. but mine does smell though if i drive hard, the smell enters the interior, even with the vents closed.

I noticed yesterday that my car has a couple of darkened areas on the exhaust pipe JUST before the Cat. I was worried it had burned a hole through, but it looks like it's just dirt or something. Anyway, check that area.

those "bolts" are studs screwd into the exhaust manifold. The only way they are coming out is to take off the exhaust manifold and take it to an exhaust shop where they can heat and bust them out. If they are broken it would probably be cheaper to find a member who had installed OBX headers and would sell you that side manifold for really cheap. That ring gasket will run you anywhere from 3-12 dollars.

This is not entirely true- The nuts will come right off if you spray them with some anti-rust. Then you just need 2 to 2.5 feet of extension on a 1/2 inch ratchet with a 14mm socket. It is easiest that way to at it from underneath the car, otherwise, it will be hard to get any leverage or movement from within the engine bay. You DON'T have to take off the manifold! Their will be enough slack to pull the pipe out once you loosen the nuts from the bottom.

...If anyone's still listening.
