Is replacing the heater core in a Legend a major pain in the a**?? I have replaced them in other vehicles and they were not too bad. Looking at the Legend service manual, this seems to be a little more challenging.

I changed my heater core after a engine swap and it took me the whole day. The only reason I changed mine was due to coolant leak at foot rest passenger side. Just take your time, label what u think u will forget, and if you can get help all the better.
I just want to say that it is a pain in the ASS to take a dash out like WOWW i got 1 hanging on my house that i want to replace but due to the labor of it i dunno... lol
I did mine last year, and yeah, the entire dash has to come out. One thing to watch for when re-assembling. Make sure the drain hose from the heater/ac housing is pushed back through the hole in the firewall. Otherwise you'll have a floor full of water eventually.
Having been there and done this... I'd rather experience my finger nails ripped off with a pair of pliers without any pain management than to experience this task. Doable - yes - Daunting - HELL YES!
