I am in the market for another car my first car was a 91 legend l 4dr that put me thru hell and left me feeling like legends were garbage then I bought a CRX and realized I don't like the attention one of those cars gets you so now I see this ad

1991 Acura Legend - Toronto Acura Cars For Sale - Kijiji Toronto

and I always thought that the legend coupe is a great looking car I even went looking for a coupe after my sedan gave up so I'm asking... do I take the risk and buy the car or are the typical problems legends have i.e BHG's, heater core, etc... too much to even consider?

P.S. I am fully aware that posting this question in this biased forum will result in partisan responses but because you guys know the legends inside and out and are familiar with its short comings you seem like the best bunch to ask

Thanks

:hitit:

Seriously, besides BHG, these cars seem to be fairly good on the reliability front (though your experience has obviously been different).

How much else do you see around for $1500 that, even with the BHG potential, likely has another 100,000 kms or more on it?

honestly, for 1500, it might end up having some problems in the long run.

however, even for more, my boss has a 94 6spd coupe with 125k. i have had to do alot on it since he has gotten it, things like, door handles breaking, window switch not working, gas filler door not working, wipers not spraying fluid, door lock actutors, CLUTCH!, brakes, probably more things that i forgot to mention, lol.

but i can't say its not worth it in the end, its a beautiful car, runs awesome, feels great!

so if it ask me, $1500 is worth it on that coupe if its decent atleast.

i can't lie thou, u might still need to end up spending money and honestly, these cars are pretty easy to fix for the most part, if u r willing to DIY, ppl on here are always willing to hepl and give advice for when u get stuck along the way.

If you are going to be worried about BHG.. why? that car has practically a new motor and tranny... everything should be fine.. but if your going to listen to some of the members on here, make sure its the members who have been here longer, Stevieray, Alperovich, etc.. look at their car list and see their posts and how long they have been here and their EXTENSIVE car list.. <--------- also look how many legends they have had..

but in other words, get that car cuz if you dont i am sure some other forum member will take it right out from under your nose

Unless you want another bad experience with a Legend, spend a lot more and by one that's in great shape. At the mileage that that one is at, you'll at least need to replace most of the suspension components; and thats not cheap.

You consider an engine and transmission with unknown mileage and history "practically new"?:squint:

If it doesnt have a bunch of hidden rust damage then 1500 is a great price for a coupe, especially if the paint is decent. Still you do have to look at what you are getting, a $1500 car. In my mind a straight body, decent paint and decent interior are worth $1500 for a coupe, even if it doesn't have a motor or trans. Still at 1500 i bet its already got a blown head and they just took the thermostat out.

so its no surprise that I bought that Legend today and I'm glad I did. The seller is a mechanic he basically went through everything that has been done to it and even put it up on the hoist. The suspension and front end components were replaced recently and he even invited me back to do the safety, so far there not to much to complain about there is a check engine light I have yet to diagnose the SRS light is on and it needs new rear rotors but for what I paid him (1300) I feel like I got a deal... and if I would have know that legends are supposed to ride as smooth as this one does I never would have bothered with the crx hahaha.

Anyway thanks for your input but I'm sure everyone who read this post knew I was buying the car its gonna need a bit of work but you guys on this forum can help me with that I'm sure of it

Thanks again

I was just looking at that ad! If I was you, i would be more concern about the body, when bhg happens go with type II, my mistake is droping type II engine on a winter beater spend all summer fixing the rust, are you gonna sell your crx??

the CRX sold immediately it's a good lil car but the guy who owned it before me went nuts with the hack job race modifications so I couldn't keep it a guy who works at a lexus dealer bought it right away

at 1500, i say its probably worth it.

if it really came down to it, you could part it out and probably make a profit. Coupes are rare, and parts aren't cheap.
