also this may be a good note to most of u out there with cars of this age. hoses i never would have thought to check for replacement. these hoses look terrible. not to mention the rusted out water pipes they connect to. i don't know if it was the coolant used or what.

lots of cleaning to do.

and this is what carbon buildup looks like under your valve covers. use seafoam kids!!!!!!

Good luck on this build! From what i can see so far it looks pretty awesome. I can't wait to see the final product.

I've been wanting to do something similar to my G1. I have so many oil leaks that i just want to rip the whole thing apart and just do all the gaskets.

Also good choice on the CV shafts; i bought the same ones last year and they have worked great without any problems.

I feel ya on that.

OP: let me know how that ebay timing belt works out, I just bought one for my G2 on ebay. my friend came over and was like its made in china. I'm pretty sure it'll fit still.

how much you get your gasket kit for?
when i bought the kit it was right at $100. i think they have gone up about $20 since then though.

Don't forget to replace the bolts. If you try to torque down the old bolds, your gonna snap the head off. Believe me, I know.
which bolts exactly are you referring to? i had planned on replacing any that looked like they needed it but should i replace all. do you know of any stainless bolt kits out there?

By all means, if budget permits, I would love to finally put to rest the H22 piston rumors! I've been itching like mad to do this myself when I finally am able to yank my engine, but if you're first, by all means let us know!
yes budget permitting is everything here.

whats even better is i should be able to get genuine honda bolts from work. i work for a honda power equipment dealer. all the bolts should be same part numbers.

Well, the you my friend, is lucky lol.

well unfortunately after some checking it looks like i won't be able to get the major bolts. some of the smaller ones yes, but like the head to block bolts are model specific. just a bit of information for you all, on a honda part number eg. 90005-ph7-003 (head to block bolt) the ph7 designates the model. thats why most of the parts for g1's have the ph7 in the part#. the reason i can't get them is because nothing in the power equipment side of the company uses that bolt, and even though its just a bolt i still can't order them. so yeah smaller bolts that r just regular metric honda bolts won't be a problem but the major bolts i will have to get from one of the dealerships

i reused my s13's headbolts and i believe they are stretch torque bolts. just got a nice read on the torque rachet. head gasket was doin fine and i was racin the engine. just bolt em slow, nice and even, and dont over torque. that's when you can easily f up a head.

just be wary of how many times you reuse... or you'll be doing the cleaning, prepping, and torquing on a 2ND new HG. gotta love old bolts...

Hey cool! I've been cleaning that 2.7 intake I used in my comparo too! I'm sure this will be a nice gain (or regain!) in power!
i hope so. this thing was filthy

dblanehopr said:
hell yeah it is...
that was the first thing i did, and it was like shoving No-Doz into the gastank.
hahaha no-doz in the gas tank thats good. i'm excited to see the power gains from cleaning the carbon out of the thing

one of the worst smells i have ever encountered in my life came from the depths of my cylinder head.

my goal for the weekend was to have 1 of the cylinder heads off the block. i didn't reach my goal. took out all the rocker arms, push rods and tappets. got all the head bolts to turn about a 1/4 turn and then nothing. won't budge. any suggestions? anybody opposed to using heat to try and break the bolts free?
