Depends on the cost of the K&N drop in filter. You could just run a tube from the throttle body through the hole where the dampner is so that you suck in cold air and put a cone K&N on the end. This bypasses the factory airbox for increased flow and allows cold air in which also helps power. Just a K&N drop in will help but maybe not even 3 hp because your still sucking in hot air.

I've seen the K&N filter catalog and they don't manufacture a drop-in air filter that fits in the stock filter location (but they for the g2's).

You'd have to get one of their universal cone filters. The custom CAI will take you some time and effort, but's its supposedly not that difficult. I've got a cheap APC filter on a section of tubing (I took out the stock box), and I think it adds some balls when punching the accelerator, and definetly a pretty huge roar that sounds awesome.
