Yes, I know we have a thread to discuss things like this, but that thread is very long and I read a bit of it and didn't find what I needed. There have been two instances in about a week where my temp guage went up a little bit.

#1: I was sitting at a stop light, looked down right before I started moving and my temp guage was slightly higher than normal. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. Went down right away. Got to my destination, sat with the car idleing in the parking lot-temp guage was rock solid. (Stop light was on an off ramp, the car was slightly slanted and on a small hill)

For about a week I kept an eye on it, nothing.

#2: Tonight, here is the werid part-the SAME STOP LIGHT, I saw my temp guage go up, when I started driving, went back down. Got to my destination, sat in the car, sitting still with my foot on the brake, just as if I was at a stop light and nothing happened. (At least 30-40 seconds) Put the car in park and sat for another little bit-nothing-temp guage was rock solid.

Bottom line, my temp guage went up a bit two times in one week AT THE SAME SPOT ON THE ROAD.

What are you thoughts?

when you were stopped and the temp gauge went up...did it go down after you started moving or did it just suddenly go back down?

if ithe temperature went down after you started moving, that sounds like mine. I changed the thermostat and the gauge hasnt moved since.

Hopefully that's it! gotta be one of the cheapest repairs on the Legend

maybe its the thermostat. but then it would happen more often than just once.
oh and mine was VERY sporadic when I first noticed it. then before I knew it, it was happening anytime I stopped more then 20 seconds...I was eyeballing for every quick right turn I could find!

Pat, your car is probably running pretty cool right now since it's Nov....so maybe that's why it's not happening a lot yet. and once the thermo opens, the temp will go right down

As far as I know all fans are working ok.

Thermostat was one of my 1st thoughts.

Good part is....

I already have an appointment for timing belt and water pump on Monday.

Yes, the temp went down after I started moving. It was not up very high to begin with though.

Looks Like I'll add thermostat to the list for Monday.

Thanks guys.

Any other imput would be appreciated as well

First thing to check is the coolant level in the radiator. If it is normal then then it's a cooling fan issue. Make sure you request an Acura OEM thermostat when they do the T/B W/P ect...

I was having this problem as well. Once I changed my TB/WP I haven't noticed anything since. I think doing your thermostat is a good idea too. And hey, if they have the time, maybe spending a few extra dollars replacing your upper and lower radiator hose will be a good precaution to take as well, IMHO.

Funny night for me.

Had almost exactly same thing happen quite a while ago except it was this particular hill I go down on my way home... hey it's the road in my sig!

Anyways, I added water to the resevoir and never has that needle moved since. Check the resevoir first, it won't cost ya anything... well, maybe the water :giggle:

Thanks guys. Being that it's going in on Monday anyway and I only have a short drives to take, I'll keep an eye on things and talk to the mechanic on Monday when I take it in.

We'll see. I just can't believe it happened in the same exact spot and I could not replicate the issue at any other time.

Pat--it's also possible that you may have a slight amount of air in the cooling system.
Since your mechanics are replacing your thermostat,
they'll need to bleed the cooling system too, which would take care of that.

I'm going in for my timing belt and water pump soon.
My water pump is audible, but I've only got 75k since the last change.
How many miles have you driven on the current belt/pump?

Good Luck,
Keith

I'm on the original Timing belt and water pump at almost 91k. I've had the appointment for the TB/WP since early this week. Now the list for Monday is:

Oil
Timing Belt
Water Pump
Spark Plugs
Valve Covers (Black ones with new seals)
Thermostat

The same shop changed my coolant more than a year ago and my Legend has been fine since then-They are an Acura/Honda specialty shop.

That,or fans not working?????:headscrat :headscrat

On the way to and from Chicago, for the meet, mine ran normal, but also, a couple needles BELOW normal, too! I'm thinking thermostat too, but it was just done in March..........OEM!

Below's better than above, I don't care who ya are!:giggle:
I'm not driving much today and it's a bit colder outside, but I'm going to pay attention to the fans.

My car does that on occassion. When I am idling sometimes it will notch a bit up or go halfway but stops there, never above. Then drops immediately when I accelerate. But this rarely happens. About once every two weeks.

Coolant level is good, not burning anything, no drips. Fans are working.

My guess is air in system or thermostat.
