It's hard to see from that pic, but it just barely misses the top of the engine. I still haven't been able to test out the strut bar yet (see posts about PPP), but I will definately comment when I finally can drive my car.

prelude nuespeeds

Anyone here have the prelude nuespeed brace installed on there G2 Coupe. I need to know if it touchs the hood or engine at all and how much does the bracket need to be bent and how difficult is it to bend. I personlly feel that the Nuespeed bar, although much more expensive than the ebay stuff, seems to be a whole lot stiffer. about $120+s/h.

What would you guys prefer to use, Nuespeed $120, Ebay stuff $20, MLS $$$?

I finally got my ECU back (read sticky ECU posts) and got a chance to take my car out and test out the strut bar. I really think it makes a BIG difference!! I tried to take some really hard corners and the car felt very stable, I was quite impressed! Granted, I haven't driven my car in about 5 weeks or so, but it was not like this before. So I think it's definately worth the $45 shipped or if you can get it on ebay for cheaper, then go for it!

i don't know if it's true, but i read somewhere that a guy installed the "cheap" strut bars, and he took a crazy turn and the fricking thing snapped and poked outta the hook. needless to say, the hood got messed up and the strut busted. like i said, not sure if this is an "urban" myth, but hey... careful out there dmenn. :) then again... you could opt for carbon fiber hood if that does happen. hehehe :D

ATTN andwhat03: I was thinking the same thing. if you look on page 1 of this thread, i posted a pic of the 97+ prelude strut bar installed on the lude. i'm busy now, but hopefully i'll have time to hit some motorsport shop to find out. probably in 3 weeks since finals are coming up in 2 weeks. so i guess i'll have time over spring break. let me know if you find out anything. thanks!

It will not work, its to wide... with the ones that we are useing for the legend, the main bar is adjustabe, so you can adjust it all the way short then it fits. with the Nuespeed its not. (the prelude is not wider then our cars, but strut bolts are angled differently which makes the bar longer to get to the bracket)

I read thru the whole post and all the pictures, I'm still confused. What part of the prelude bar do we bend? The actual bar itself or just the mounting brackets?

Dave, when you said you just bolted down one side and bended the bar. Let's say you bolted down the passenger side, which way would you bend the bar?

Thanks in Advance

From what I understand, its just the bracket that needs to be bent.

You just bend the bracket but I had a problem on mine. I just tried to put it in but when I got it in there it was touching the top of the engine. By touching I mean really pushing down on it hard. Hard enough to restrict the movement of the engine and transmit all it's vibrations directly into the car. What am I doing wrong, or do I have to put in some spacers to raise the strut bar up? Please help, anyone.

prelude strut bar install

I bought the proparts strut bar and want to install it but I have two wires in the way on the driverside right near the mount. Is it okay to move them. They look like they are mounted their to keep them straight.

prelude strut bar

I installed my procarparts honda prelude strut bar today. It only took me six hours. My bar came with black mounts instead of the blue ones they show on their website.

When the bar came i was quite impressed. It is a sturdy bar. I can't bend the bar at all. It is strong and adjustable. THe sevice at proparts sucks ass but the price for the quality of the strut bar is unbeatable even with a twenty dollar shipping fee.

Anyways, it was not as easy to install as I thought. I had to break a bracket that holds the fuse box down to put in the mount. I also had to bend a little bracket that holds my amp fuse wire and throttle body cable. Then I bolted down the brackets and bent the bar. You have to bend the bar side ways becuase the mounts make the bar face towards the front not across the engine. That was easy to do. Then I had to try to bend it down over the engine. It has hard. I had three people help me do it. I got it all bolted in and took it for a drive.

When I would stop at a light my whole car would vibrate because the engine is pressing on the bar. I took it by the acura dealer and he said that it was a BAD IDEA AND I WOULD BREAK SOMETHING BECAUSE THEIR ARE FUEL LINES UNDER THERE AND THE ENGINE IS DESIGNED TO MOVE UNDER HEAVY ACCELERATION AND THAT ALL THE STRESS WOULD BREAK SOMETHING.

I then went home and put three washers under the first screw closest to the enginge This raised in up about a millimeter over my engine. I put everything back to gether and was ready to go when my hood wouldn't close. IT could not get it to close because my strut bar was to high. So I took it to my dads bench grinder and grinded the mounts on each side. The was a part that stuck up on each side above where it bolts to the bar. I grinded maybe a 1/4 of an inch and reinstalled it. IT now sits perfect over the enginge with no bending. The bar is completely straight, the mounts are bent to the side. Once the are bent once they stay that way.

It works good because if you need to work on the engine you can leave the brackets on and just take off the bar. My hood closes good and all.

I took it for a drive and it drives awsome. THe bar makes such a huge difference. It drives better raising the bar and keeping it straight than bending it and having all the stress.

I normally drive my car through this winding road racing my friends at about 65 mph. After I installed my bar I went through and I thought my friends weren't going to race me and then I looked down and noticed I was going 95 mph. They were racing I just had left them. My friend drives a lowered civic si with anti sway bars and a rear strut bar. Not to bad for a 3400 lb legend to out handle a 2400lb civic si.

Oh yeah I might need to mention that my car has koni struts and ebiach springs, so I don't know how it will help a car with stock suspension.

IT WAS THE BEST FORTY FIVE DOLLAR IMPROVEMENT I HAVE MADE.

I think i like it better than the MSL one on the group buy because I had to take it on off four times today and if i had to do that with the msl on that connects right to the strut i would have striped my strut or messed it up. Plus the one from proparts if you need it off you just take off the silver bar not the brackets.

My final thought is WOW what a difference strut bars make on our G2 legends.

excellent, glad you like it!

mine is sitting just on the plastic covers for the fuel rails. I have had the prelude strut bar on for over 1yr, and have had no problems, the engine still flexes just fine I just dont screw the plastic fuell rail covers down all the way so they will just flex inbetween the engine and the strut bar

Ok, maybe I am just a bit tired after eating lunch, but which part did you grind? The mounts on the car or the mounts on the bar itself? If on the bar, if I asked ProCarParts.com to send you the bar, you do what u can with it, and then ask u to ship it to me, could you do it and in what time frame?
