I'm looking into getting a set of type II heads ready for install in my 91. A local machine shop said they would regrind the valves(3 angle), put in new valve seals and machine the heads flat, also port and polish.

Total cost $620.00 without the P&P $320.00 Is this a good price? What did you guys pay ?

I was offering to everyone basically 900 dollars worth of work which included:

Ported and Polished, gasket matched, backcut valves, new valve stem seals, 3 angle valve job, deck the heads(smooth), comp cam springs, complete cleaning of the head and all assembled. Basically add a cam and your good to roll. it was like 900.

Depends on the shop. For a very reputable shop that is getting most of their work from dealerships and high end repair shops, Thats ok i guess. Id shop around and see if you can find a small shop, where the guy basically works out of his garage..

I had my heads Ported/Polished/Decked/new valve seals (which i supplied) and cam seals done for $160 at my machine shop. I know he did great work as well because he called me back a day after I had dropped off the heads to tell me that he had magnafluxed them and one of the heads was cracked. I went down there to look and sure enough it was. Scored a new head from the yard for $150 and he didnt charge me any extra for the magnaflux.
