damn are our cars that long, lol. T, obvious no diss in my statement to u, but are u running low on funds from this project or is this a good muffler? looks like a lower quality muffler and based on the quality of work you've spend on this (what I call a nightmare) project, I assumed you would have had a better muffler on the end of all this piping?

Any reason you choose that muffler? It is going to be great to hear them t-bos!!

i didnt have 2 hours to read through all of the posts but looks damn good from what i have seen! Nice work man...mad respect
No worries I don't blame you, at some point I will do a picture thread of the various aspects of the cars progression.

the flow properties of that exhaust system are very respectable looking!
Thanks, as you look back through the many variations of the exhaust's design the flow it was something that I was very concerned about which will lead me to my point for Moistical.

I imagening how hard it is to do this the way you did it, I am also need to go thru something like that... keep it up you almost there!

What is the deal with that pool rack triangle? do you play pool?
I am a monday night league pool player.
Oh man was it a pain, I wish I had it up on the ramps and the jack stand but it is a pain getting the engine in and out when it's on the ramps.

I love pool it is one of my favorite things to do in my rare moments of downtime I too use to play in a Monday night league before I got married, since then I have had to delegate my time a little differently so to compensate I bought a table. But in the pic the rack happened to be the right size to hold the downpipe up and keep it off the chair in the corner. The purpose of the table in that shot was because I too was suprised at how long our cars actually are. they must be really well proportioned because it doesn't seem that long. but that is a 7 foot table not an 8 (it wouldn't fit lol) However I did design that room around two things a pool table and a wet bar :).

Indeed they are lol shocked me too. As for the muffler no dis taken, and an understandable question/comment.
As previously noted a lot of attention was paid to how the exhaust would flow even to the point of the muffler hence the no dual exhaust. I chose this muffler because of the quality for the price. The downside is that you can't tell the difference visually between it and a 20.00 muffler ans a $300.00 muffler when it comes to an N1 style of muffler. Now if you know me when it comes to mufflers you will know two things 1. I won't spend alot on a muffler and 2. I will try to cut costs where possible, bend them where needed and spend where necessary (still looking for a better cheaper way to do it).

I bought this muffler because I knew I needed to achieve maximum exhaust flow, have a 3" inlet, and a silencer for times that I didn't want it to be too loud. This muffler met those needs at a respectable cost and was tig welded with a stainless still finish Ideally if there was an inexpensive dual outlet muffler that had an internal corrugated Y single 3" in and a dual 2" out design wrapped in stainless wool at a good price I may have opted for that but I didn't see that for the price I wanted, and the OBX muffler on my car now has that (appearance) but is still a little loud. But to answer your question nope not out of funds but getting close. And it is more than I have spent on a muffler to date :).

Also keep in mind that for an N/A car correct pipe size for the best velocity is a key factor. High-end mufflers (Remus) design to meet these requirements to provide gains by designing with this in mind. This is a little off topic but I think of it like the design differences that create gains between a tri-y type of header vs a 3 to 1 header both similar in the directional flow characteristics and dimension, but design impacts or increases flow (tri-y is better). Now on a Turbo'd car throw that theory out the window, the faster you can get it out the better!

Here is the muffler info.

GT-1 TYPE UNIVERSAL MUFFLER (STRAIGHT CUT TIP/ WITH SILENCER) *** TIG WELDING 3" I.D.
SKU: MUFFLER-CR5532U-3

Price: $109.00 (not what I paid of course :)
List Price: $149.00 - You Save: $40.00

End chapter 1 (haha that was a lot of writing)

Well I now know that it is not too long and that it is close to fitting. I think I need to tighten everything up and bolt up the tranny (it jacked to close height) before making the final adustments.

Is not aligning right?

ok thanks for the details. that is what I actually thought that is ways one of those cheap $20-$30 mufflers you see on ebay.

Mkes sense thought, bringing in all that flow you need to get it out quickly also. Keep it up man; lovin you dedication to this proj.

hey come on now, turn that frown upside down! just remember, take your time and get it right. If you do a half asssed job as this point you will hate yourself.

You got that right, I am going to get it and I am going to get it right, it is just going to take more time. Also since having the turbos rebuilt I never new what the trim was on the compressor side till now. I decided since I have to clock the turbos I may as well calculate the trim of them and they are 60 trim and to my surprise the blades are actually Turbonetics :) Edit I was wrong they are AirResearch/Garrett. (same thing really)

More welding will be necessary unfortunately, how much I din't yet know.

Thanks it would be a nice goal to test fire next weekend don't know though it will kind of depend on what I get done this weekend, there is still alot of work to be done. And I seem to find more every time I get into it. for now though I want to get every thing in place so I can get these pipes lined up right

Oh this build is an emotional roller-coaster lol, I got the exhaust figured out I just need to shave down the flanges on the axle-back and have the front flanges welded :). But I did encounter a design flaw in the build. I have to go back through previous pics to see where the oversight began but there is not enough room for the internal wastegate on the drivers side. This was a costly error :(.

well everyone knows there are always little mistakes (well not so little in this case) here and there don't get discouraged bro you will get around it and figure it out this is just part of the whole picture we are rootin for ya :)
