This is the ONLY place to post any questions or comments you have about the recent site update. I have updated the FAQ to reflect all changes and show users their options. Check there first. Please follow forum rules when posting here. If you have any bugs/errors to report, you can do it here. Thanks for your patience and support! FYI details about the banner competition will be up soon, and Flash chat will be added instead of the AIM chat by the end of the week.

I will talk to the tech today to see if we can set it back. They may have done it for a reason.

Can the "site navigation" menu on the left side please contain all of the links to every part of the forum?

Can all the forum sections on [URL]this page be linked on the left "site navigation" menu?
That would be redundant to the forum page, and would make the navbar very long. Is there a specific reason you would like it this way?

If we cant get rid of the side ads when viewing the different thread pages, can we at least get them moved to the right side?
We chose the left side purposely for the good exposure. It is a great ad position for our site supporters.

Why dont we have the member list anymore?
The member list was removed as a security measure to prevent exploitation of our users. It appears in plain text and can easily be used to harm the site and it's members.

Actually no, those ads on the left are annoyin as heck, please remove them

I know you guys are just trying to make us "free riders" annoyed enough to pay up to have the convenience of a clutter free forum experience, but it wont happen, because I can think of a better way to use that 10-15 bux (like gas so i can actually go and get fog lights for a group buy on my own dime just so I can get the members here a better deal.)

EDIT: BTW, before the update, i never had ads on my user CP section or when i clicked in a specific thread. Now the only place i dont have ads is when I click on a thread, every where else, i have that stupid bar on the left side. I was fine after you encroached my space on this >>>> side because it only took up like a half inch, but now, <<<< side takes up what you see ^.
Firstly, we are not trying to "annoy" anyone into supporting the site. The reasoning for the additional ad space is clearly explained in the FAQ. Secondly, we discussed the addition of the sidebar on ALL forum pages in a previous thread. Sorry you missed it.

If my 10,000 PM limit changes to 500 when I renew my "premium" subscription, I'll be pissed..

edit: what happened to the 50mb avatar size limit?

Long live A-L.
We are working to fix the premium membership payments page to reflect the actual packages more clearly, (including the PM limit) and the 50mb avatar size limit was my typing error. It was in regards to attatchment size. Sorry.:hide: I fixed it as soon as I noticed. Also in regards to the PM limits, if you scroll down to the bottom of the page of your Inbox, there is an option available to download your PMs if you would like (in 3 different formats to boot), this can help to cut down on the number of PMs stored.

Once more, I am going to stress that we discussed what we were doing before the fact, and used the constructive criticism received by the members was taken into consideration prior to making any changes. You were all aware of what was planned, and had a chance to voice your opinions at that point. Any change takes time to get used to, and is usually annoying at first. I'm sure we will all get used to the new look of Acura-Legend.com. Thanks.

Looks like the Recent Threads on the front page is back to normal.

Geez, you guys, look:

This is a FREE SITE for most of you. We DON'T *have to* PAY to be here, to have an account, to post, etc. Yeah, I can understand that the ads may bite, and there are some changes, but look at it from the other side: they bought a site with the intent to MAKE MONEY from it.

I don't know the new owner's, but I can tell you they must have a *lot* of patience, b/c dude has repeatedly said *check the faq* before you post about something, yet people keep going over the same stuff. If it's not in the FAQ, cool, I understand that, but, just like so many other things, people are jumping right in w/out reading the instructions. And we *all* know how that can turn out. And they have to listen to everyone *complain* and not offer constructive criticism, and there *is* a difference. I feel they are flexible enough to give us input on this site (how many sites do you belong to where the members are going to make the banner for the page?), so let us help them shape the site so that everyone, including the owners, can benefit from it.

And yeah, this is a major overhaul, and there will be some glitches. GIVE THEM TIME to work them out. We as community demand a lot for next to nothing. And even the paying members, give them time to work this out. For everyone complaining about this that and the other, and not approaching this thread with a little bit of humility and understanding, imagine if they started charging a monthly fee, or increased the package prices? What would you do? The only thing constant is *change*, so let's give this a chance before everyone starts ripping it apart. If you think you can do better, buy a server, get hosting, set everything up, and then let everyone know. If not, sit back, relax, and let's not make mountains out of molehills, mmmmmmmmmmmkay?

I don't expect everything to be changed and solved right away. I build and maintain my own site and have business off that where people expect to see pictures up with in under a week.

However I would like to be recognized as a member of this forum and community that I have given so much of my time and where I though I had a voice.

If you have an account, you post, you contribute, you *are* recognized. :D And if you didn't have a voice, how would you be posting :) Like I said, this isn't for those offering constructive criticism, just the out and out complaining that really needs to stop. We sound like a bunch of crybabies, and is that how we want to be perceived?

you did away with the ad after the first post (for those who signed up to the forum) you should do something similar to << side.

If my 10,000 PM limit changes to 500 when I renew my "premium" subscription, I'll be pissed..
Existing V.I.P members will retain their PM limits once they renew. Only new subscribers will have the new limits. The reason for this is that there are only 2 members who are even close. The majority of members are under 500.

What bothers me is that with my slow internet connection at school it takes 1-3 seconds longer to start loading the part of the page I care about because the boxes on the left fill the whole screen as their images load before they shoot to the left.

Buying membership hasn't been near the top of my list but I've been considering it for a while. If new members signing up to become VIP only get to store 500 pms when the price has already jumped to $15, I'll likely never buy a membership. $5 more for less just makes it that much less likely I'll buy.
The fact that your school has a slow internet connection should be brought up with them. The new membership packages have added perks that should help to justify the extra $5 as mentioned in our previous thread. It is unfortunate that this small price difference and added features are going to deter you from a supporting membership.

EDIT: How about moving that "forum jump" drop down selector from the very bottom of every page to somewhere near the top?
The layout of the site is now set up as it will be. It is a domino effect sometimes when moving drop downs, and buttons around on a site. One small change can create other problems. The great thing is the set up we have currently is bug and error free. Thanks for the input.

at least when it was owned by the Whelans, the forum was for family, not monetary gain. Now we are just another number in the group of "more than 100 vertical and community-oriented websites for automotive enthusiasts."
I can understand where you are coming from, but the rules and the people on the forum have not changed with the ownership. Aside from being auto enthusiasts ourselves, we are a business and bought the site to make some money. On the flipside, you have to understand that we didn't come in here to change the way people post or to affect their interpersonal relationships. In fact, we want the site to continue on as a great place for knowledge and community. Thanks for all the input.

I've given myself some time to let this new style set in. I'm not happy with the ads, but you're hearing enough of that and I can't expect ads to not be in my face if I'm not a paying member. Nadeem thanks for responding, but it seems some of your changes make it seem that the members who contributed to make this forum what it is (reason your group bought it at some point) is now taking second fiddle to your need for advertising. You say you put the ads in the area for the best traffic possible for those supporters, but you wouldnt have those without the info put on here by the majority of free members. Please consider the change as we only had 4 days to really know that you were going to put an annoying bar on the left side, of which was only known 4 days in advance in a section with fairly low traffic.

Let me first say that I don't really know HOW running a site works these days, so correct these next points if I am wrong.

Granted, running a site is not free. That said, do you not get credit for every click made by every member, paying or not? When I sit here day after day clicking the active topics button, isn't that paying for the site?

I mean, there are 3 types of users here. The active ones who are VIP, The active ones who aren't VIP, and the people who stop by because they just bought a Legend, or have a question about one. I understand your wanting to "tax" those just stopping by to get quick answers, but it does seem sucky to the rest of us "active" non paying members. I feel like we are already "paying" for our time here with 1. our contributions ( we host our pics off photobucket!!) and 2. our clicks.

The adds on the left. You say you put them there to make them noticeable. These are the 4 adds I have On the left of my screen..

1. Acura RL Offical Site
2. Acura RL
3. The All-New 2010 Lexus RX
4. The New 2010 Volvo XC60

Maybe you don't want these adds to be so noticeable? I mean if I bought an RL, Lexus, or Volvo, I might not be coming to a Legend site so much anymore?

Ive decided that I will donate at this point, because I can't live with 100PMs or this bar on the left, but if this is the way you are going, I must strongly encourage you to have contests/rewards where you give away VIP status. Not often, but enough that active Contributors can possibly get memberships for their work.

Where would this site be right now without Telion, Car2n, Dv8, Sr5guy, Mike Diaz, etc?

Look at Car2ns LEGENDSX topic - 31,000 views.
Telions Turbo build - 28,000 views.

At a penny a view, thats $310 from Car2n and $280 from Telion. At 1/10th of a penny per click thats still 31 from car2n and 28 from Telion.

Basically, I am suggesting some sort of program that rewards the active contributors who make this site what it is. That is all.

This isn't how it works. The clicks on posts/threads do not generate revenue. It's the clicks on ads and/or ad exposure that do.

^ Very true. The only way the clickable ad recipient (Google/Yahoo and many other companies operate similarly) is benefited is if the consumer browsing a page clicks on the ad, which leads you to their website. So Nick, on that Lexus ad you have, the only way Lexus will pay the owners of A-L is if you click on the Lexus ad itself. Clicking around on the forum generates no revenue whatsoever, unfortunately.

A little information for everyone.

So this site is now owned by autoforums.com Inc. which owns at least 860 other domains and is owned by a 26 year-old named Rob Laidlaw  yay

Yes it does cost money to run a site and for a vbulletin license, but with the bulk discount they get and cheap hosting it's probably not more than $10-$16 a month. Bureaucracy :thumbsdow

Hopefully one of their employees can address the redundant menus at the bare minimum; I don't think the ads are going anywhere.

EDIT: There was need for me to clarify that the redundant menus I was referring to are the navigation menus; the 2 on top and the one on the left side.
